Question about the length of time for a nomination to be received...

I think this previous post touches on this case...

So they will not conduct the interview and then move on to the next candidate, so there for some states are at a disadvantage in this aspect, due to their state working in this manner for nominations. I have personally had this happen to my in California, so I am not just guessing or assuming this situation. Just be aware of that, but that does not mean you should not apply or try for all nominations.
But I can provide a counter case. I received my first nomination in Nov 2005 from Senator Cornyn in TX. Before going to my Congressman's (McCaul) interview I called and told them I received Sen Cornyn's nomination. They said, don't bother coming (Had to do a 4 hour drive to Austin from Houston) because we won't give multiple nominations in order to maximize the number of candidates that can be sent. About a month later I got a letter in the mail from Cong. McCaul's office congratulating me on receiving his nomination. I'm guessing the offices must have talked in order to use the Senatorial one on an at large state candidate and had the district take me. I don't know.

Bottom line is, don't assume anything about the nominations and the process: apply for all of the ones you are eligible and worry about the details later of who gives what."

So I think the Tx State Senators do this with the other HOR MOC's. Either way, call the Sen's office.

I will say that I should clarify that double "Principal" Noms is not needed but I can see the point for applying for as many general noms for your district's or state slate as possible. Thanks for the correction and I will now eat my shoe.

Okay...a little digging and the answers specifically are here for Sen. Hutchison.

Couple of kids eeked out double noms b/c there are congressman here who apparently won't talk to Sen. Hutchison's office about noms. Go figure.

I got to say, you're a good sport. And obviously a diligent researcher!

Thanks for hanging out on the forum. I, for one, am glad you're here.

Thank you. I'm not thin skinned or thick headed. Honestly, meeting these young people and going through the process with our DS is very, very humbling and inspirational to me. If I'm wrong or uninformed then all I have to do is learn.

Personally, I feel badly for this candidate b/c the process is chaotic and moderately organized. I've learned more on this forum than from the academies or MOC's offices!

As for opinions...I'm glad I always keep a spare.

I've been nominated by two state representatives: one of my state's senators (Kay Bailey) and my texas representative Henry Cuellar.
I received a call from Kay Bailey's office about a week and a half to two weeks ago asking if I still wanted to attend (obvious answer, yes) and I was to be nominated. The letter in the mail said "You will hear from the academy in a few weeks."
On the other hand I received a nomination from Henry Cuellar through mail just a few days ago. I haven't necessarily expected it to reach the academy yet.

My concern with this whole waiting game is that its been two weeks and my candidate file still hasn't been updated to say I've got a nomination yet. Should it be updating soon?

-One scenario is that the MOC has not turned in the slate yet. They have until 31 JAN to do so.
-Another scenario is that WP has not entered it on your portal yet.

You are more than welcome to call your RC and inquire about this.

Also, I don't know too much about the statistics of people who have gotten in but does having that additional nomination pretty much seal me in?

No, it doesn't seal the deal - but having 2 nominations is better than one. It doubles your chances of being the vacancy winner.

My parents and family have been celebrating but I don't want to let it get my hopes up too high unless I get that admission offer.

Thanks

Getting nominated and nominated twice is certainly cause for celebration as you can't be offered an appointment without a nomination.
However, a nomination does not equal an appointment. You are wise to be cautious until an offer is actually made.
Good luck :thumb:

Without getting into all of the details- there are normally well over a thousand people each year who are fully qualified in all areas and have a nomination that DO NOT get an offer.
I am not trying to be discouraging but do not celebrate yet- good luck - I hope you make it
