My son recently received a phone call that he will receive an NROTC—MO scholarship. We are very excited for him. His first choice would be to attend USNA if that application works out, but ROTC would also be a fine option, especially since his first choice is to be a Marine. As I have no military background, there is one thing I don’t understand about the Marines. Could someone please explain the references to crayons???
:)

Sooooooo, when you ask a question like this: "Could someone please explain the references to crayons???"....Don't you think it may be appropriate to reference where that reference came from????? :wiggle:

There are many articles on this with a simple “Marines and crayons” search string. It’s all about inter-service family-style bantering and stereotypes.

I knew that, but didn't want to "presume..." what she heard and where she heard it:wiggle:

I knew you knew that, but you’re more genteel than I, a proud member of the squid-jarhead family.

Well, generally the only stuff I read about the military is on this forum. There are about thirty pages of responses to the “Humor for my Navy and Marine friends” thread. I get the basic idea about eating crayons, I guess, but I was sort of wondering where it originated, just so I would know. Especially since it looks like my son may be headed into the USMC!

After reading all these posts, you won’t be surprised if you were to Google “Marine birthday crayon cake.”

I love the Marines, proud to have served with them, called many my good friends and have deep, deep respect for their warrior culture and spirit. But I’m gonna rag on them, and smile when they rag on me.

This sums it up perfectly ! They've earned their warrior culture and reputation the hard way, but its a lot of fun to mess with them !

“The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!”― Eleanor Roosevelt, First Lady of the United States
