Hello everyone,

I am very interested in attending USAFA and will begin my application when it comes out on March 1st. I was just curious about the prep school. Is a 30 on the ACT and a 3.2 GPA qualify for the prep school or does it vary? I do believe I am from an area that is not very competitive for USAFA.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

There is no qualifications for any SA prep school. You do not apply for the prep school. You apply for an appointment to a service academy and IF the Admissions Board wants you but you have some weakness in your academic background that can be remedied, they will offer you a year at the prep school. It is not an "easy" way to attend an academy. It is not a back-door way to get into an academy. It is not a target to shoot for as it is not a target. The appointment is the target. It also makes no difference what state or area you are from. It really is something you should have zero concern or interest in over the next year and it is something that you have zero control over like a lot of things you'll do as you put together your application. Good luck to you.

Dear Spud,

Thank you for the informative reply! Thanks for the good luck wishes as well. I can't wait for the application to come out.

To make some of that good luck, I would also recommend the book for $20 from Amazon titled "The Air Force Academy Candidate Book" by Sue Ross to make your efforts pay off. Be sure and get the one by Ross as there are others that are not worth the money and one is actually misleading. It also talks about the prep school and the role it plays.
