Hey all! Hope everyone is doing well.

So I've recently discovered and really thought good and hard about attending The Citadel. I absolutely love it, and it seems like my kind of school. However, I'm concerned with my chances of getting in. I'm currently a junior, and I currently sit at a 2.22 weighted not counting this year. My grades were okay heading into spring semester of sophomore year, but I really went through some stuff and it tanked my grade, with 2 Ds and one F. I've done better this year (4 of my 7 classes are APs, and think I could get it to a 3.0 by the time I graduate. What's the chance I get in? (resume down below for more specifics):

(Also, I'm awaiting my SAT scores. Expecting between 1100-1250.)

Youth & Gov't program (held elected leadership)
Debate club
Golf team
International baccalaureate program
School-site council
Several charity programs

I suspect you'll get in. IF you're getting A's and B's in hard course work now. Don't expect much (any) in the way of academic based aid

What major are you looking at? Citadel has fairly strenuous academics the stuff my 2N2 is doing now would have killed me back in the day.

Good luck -

@FSUFan - Is your intention to try and commission? Also, why The Citadel? The reason I ask - yes, you would most likely get in, but with little aid(School based or ROTC). The Citadel is approaching $60k/year for out of state costs. There is financial aid and other scholarships, but it will be an expensive path to commission. One other point, my speculation about your competitiveness for scholarships is just that - speculation. Based off of the information from this site and others, your GPA and expected test scores would not put you in the competitive range.

For comparison - the incoming classes last two years average weighted gpa is above 3.7 and average SAT is ~ 1150. This is the aveage - and understand this includes athletes who make up about 1/4 of the SCCC - so unless you are NCAA DI category athlete, consider this when comparing your GPA and standard test scores - for admission. As mentioned above - you will need higher grades and scores for merit based scholarships. As you are in the IBP program, Admissions will consider this in assessing your prepration for college level work. As for financial aid - Citadel Cadets receive over $32 million in financial aid annually - merit and need based. Much of this is either ROTC scholarships and SC Lottery Scholarships. For SC residents, The Citadel is an incredible bargain as they end up paying about half the published cost of attendance. However, the school does try to meet most of the need based aid requirements of cadets based on family income. If you are interested in STEM subjects (which include computer science, cyber operations, intelligence and security as well as business majors), you will receive additional consideration for merit aid - again based on your qualifications. Best of luck to you.

correction to comment by EEBTTF; cost for this years OOS knobs was 53K, for OOS upperclassmen it was 48K. Average cost per year just north of 50K. That is on par with many other public colleges and compared to some a bargain.

Books and Supplies$8,144.00
Loan Fee$62.00
Personal Expenses$1,966.00
Room and Board$7,968.00
Tuition and Fees$38,528.00
Transportation$2,622.00
Total:$59,290.00
@conrack - Per The Citadel portal for my DS for the class of 2024

I’d like to major in Political Science and Sports Management, and I’m still deciding if I’d like to continue a career in the military. From the research I’ve done, I like it a lot, and like the structure and discipline it can provide for me.

I’m still considering whether to try and commission, but I suspect I will. Scholarship wise, I’ve considered many options, but I know GPA wise that may be unrealistic.

There are many different pathways to a commission. I don't know your financial situation, but The Citadel is a great option. I would focus on finishing up your Junior year as strong as you can.

With an 85% acceptance rate for the cadet programs, I’d say you should be good to go.
Just keep your grades up, and don’t get into trouble.
Good Luck!
