How many of you (or your sons and daughters) went down to see NMMI before you accepted the principal designation?

Do you think it is necessary to go visit?

My son says seeing it won't change his mind, but I'm looking for some input.

I can only speak for my DS who was a sponsored AoG prep at MMI this year – from a decision making standpoint it was more important for him to understand the programs and approaches of the different schools than the campus and the surrounding campus area. He spent a great deal of time researching the schools on the internet and from speaking with reps from the respective schools and for him - the best fits were MMI and NMMI. He based his decision on what he learned about the different schools and how they matched with his needs. The great thing was he did not have one moment that he second guessed his decision – he has had a great experience at MMI. So while a visit to the campus could be a “nice to do” I personally do not see it as a “need to do”. My thought would be save the dollars on the trip and use that to visit your DS while he is in the program!

BTW – congrats on the Civil Prep option – it has been a great experience for my DS and for his fellow classmates! Please use this forum to ask more questions about the program – I learned TONS from the parents and cadets here as we navigated these waters last year.

Thanks JWP.

As a USMMA sponsored prep he does not have a choice which school to attend...it is NMMI or bust! NMMI looks very impressive and I love that there is someone here on the boards posting. I have heard nothing but great things about the school and I am so proud and happy that my son has been given this incredible opportunity to learn and grow!

He wants USMMA, so it's NMMI for him.

I agree with what you said about saving the money for us to go visit for Family weekend and to go down with him when he enters....

To be honest, I think I was just looking for validation that I wasn't cheating him by not taking him down there. It is an expensive trip, but I would do it if someone could point out the value in it. Otherwise, I plan on going down a few days early and spending some valuable time with my son and checking out the area and the school (if that's possible).

I plan on having tons of questions and appreciate all the answers I have been getting!

Well first - congrats again! I am certain your DS will have a tremendous experience at NMMI. I have heard nothing but great things about their program so I am sure he will be well taken care of!

From our MMI experience - being there on in-processing was very therapeutic for us as parents and worth it’s weight in gold! It was great being there with our DS as he was being introduced into a whole new world at Marion. We also had a chance to see the campus up close and talk with members of the staff and at the end of that experience – I could say without reservation we knew our DS was going to be well taken care of as those programs and the people involved are all so invested in the success of our DDs and DSs and I am certain NMMI has the exact same focus.

Well best of luck to you and your DS - What a ride you all are in for!

Momma120,

I also replied to you on a different thread about comming here. First off we welcome all visitors. I usually like to talk to parents and have their son/daughter speak to the cadets here. If you come after 24 MAY all the cadets will be gone.
