Well it's not an easy question is it, after all we signed a peace deal with them in February 2020. So if he says they are an enemy it invalidates the commitment of the previous administration without having formally rolled back that process, if he says they are not an enemy it sounds like he doesn't think they are a bunch of evil, murderous thugs. Its a gotcha question from an entirely biased host who is conveniently forgetting that it was the guy he supports who decided that the Taliban are no longer our enemy a year and a half ago.

When the agreement was made, the Taliban became a former enemy. When they broke the agreement, the Taliban jeopardized their status as "former". The previous administration promised harsh action in response to violations such as have occurred over the past several months.

The decisions about how to characterize the relationship and how to respond now lie with the current administration.
