Question on Admittance Process for USMMA

Hi all,

Have a question on how USMMA determines how many candidates it accepts for each state. Is it the same as the other academies, where each U.S. Congressman or Senator "gets" five slots at the academy and those slots are filled from the nomination pool as a USNA student graduates or otherwise leaves the academy? Or does the number of nominated candidates accepted at KP depend on a set number of candidates per state? I found some information on the web that seemed to indicate this was the case, but heard from two different Congressional aides that KP reviews applicants with a nomination on a per-legislator basis, as is the case with the other academies.

My son has a nomination to KP but the information I found on the Web seemed to say that our state (Kansas) only has three spots each year. Just trying to figure the odds of my son getting accepted, you might say.
 
By law, USMMA appointments are filled in the same proportion as the candidates home state's representation in Congress.

CHAPTER 27 SUBCHAPTER XIII
SECTION 1295b

(3)

(A) Qualified individuals nominated pursuant to paragraph (1) shall be selected each year for appointment as cadets at the Academy to fill positions allocated as follows:

(i) Positions shall be allocated each year for individuals who are residents of each State and are nominated by the Members of the Congress from such State in proportion to the representation in Congress from that State.
 
Congratulations on the nomination. My son (Wichita area) received his appointment to KP back in October. It would be great to have a handful of Kansans in the class of 2013.
