Does the Naval Academy pay for the appointees' flight to Washington DC if the family would like to go on the Monday before IDAY?

    Thanks!!!

The PTR package will have specifics. I didn't look too hard for it as I am on phone at the moment, but see this link from a few years ago. Much of the boilerplate will likely continue.

Yes, appointees will be reimbursed the cheaper of (a) the cost of purchased airfare or (b) the government airfare rate. Appointees should keep receipts (proof).

As the Capt has noted, it will all be in the PTR package your MID will receive. He/she will need to submit Midshipman Accession Travel Forms along with receipts etc. but also note that is says "from your home to the Naval Academy" and it will be "up to the authorized government cost"

You will quickly learn about Orders and Military Travel Claims. I don't recall if was my NAPS or USNA Orders to Report, but I threw something away when the travel was complete, and it was a major hassle. Lesson learned -- never throw anything away ! (Thereafter I kept a copy of every single set of Travel Orders I received in the Navy--probably still in my footlocker in the basement !)
