Question on application status.

My DS completed his application back in September. He completed his medical exam in July.
My question is regarding his status on "Required Actions". It has been in the same status since September. Is this normal or should we have seen some movement by now? He has a nomination in place. The only thing he needs for USNA if a waiver. By the way, he has been granted a waiver at the other academies and ROTC with the exception of USCGA.
He has spoke to his Admissions Counselor several times. He has told him that it takes time. He spoke to his DODMERB assigned Medical Tech. He gave him a name and phone number to call at USNA. He has been calling that number and leaving messages for two weeks without a response.

Application Status: Complete Pending Review
Required Actions: Complete Medical Qualification Exam
DODMERB Status: Under Waiver Review

Thank you in advance for any advice.

My DD has been in same situation since September as well. I presume if they decide to eventually offer an appointment they will then consider the waiver. Each authority makes its own decision; to waive or not to waive. Good luck!

"He spoke to his DODMERB assigned Medical Tech. He gave him a name and phone number to call at USNA. He has been calling that number and leaving messages for two weeks without a response. "

That person is on an extended absence. Your best bet is your Admissions Counselor.

Thank you Mr Mullen for that info!

Recovering Helicopter Mom - Thank you for your response. Does your DD still have the "Required Action" of "Complete Medical Qualification Exam"?

Does anybody else who is waiting on a waiver to be granted have this same "Required Action" of "Complete Medical Qualification Exam"?

Thanks!

Yes, my DS is in same situation. His USNA admissions counselor told us they are working on a waiver and his medical status will say that way until “his file is closed” assuming waiver is granted or not

Yes she does. I guess it will stay that way until they hopefully deem her “qualified”. Fingers crossed!

Yes, same on DS portal

> There is no reason to call Admissions or USNA Medical Tech...if they want something from you, they will ask for it. The key is yes, this takes time...and pestering Admissions asking your status doesn't help (and frankly, could even work against you).

It doesn't matter if you completed your application in June or September...there are still applications coming in. There are plenty of threads here about whether you should complete early, and there are certainly good reasons to do so. However, getting an earlier decision isn't necessarily one of them unless you are lucky enough to get an LOA. Admissions still has to sort through all the Nominations (which my not even be in yet, and determine which of the 3Q candidates are most qualified.

It's a marathon, not a sprint.

The question was actually posed because my DS’ BGO officer and another local BGO officer emailed my DS asking if all medical was complete. We asked admissions if BGO sees what we see because we were worried something wasn’t completed. That’s when they explained to us that yes BGO officer sees same phrase on medical as we do and waiver was being worked on.

We can see very little. On medical I think we can see if it’s been completed and if qualified, unqualified, and possibly if a waiver has been submitted/received (another BGO can check me on that one). It’s literally a status block and that is it.

Thank you for all the responses.

Through out all of this process including applying to all of the academies and ROTC.... I have learned that it is a process and that it takes time. Follow the map and make sure it gets done and it will work out one way or another.

Where I would argue the point of some to sit and wait in this situation is this. My DS's portal lists a "Required Action". This tells me based on all the past experiences that something still needs to be completed by the applicant, in this case is that my DS still needs to complete his medical exam, which was completed in July. In my humble opinion, I think that the status on the portal should be waiting on waiver review.

I appreciate the value of this forum to quickly learn that others are in this same situation.

As far as contacting Admissions... Admission Counselor told my DS to contact him at any time with any questions he may have. DS did as such and Admissions Counselor did not think that the "Complete Medical Qualification Exam" status was correct and to contact DODMERB. DODMERB informed him he was under a waiver review and to contact medical department at Admissions to get clarification of status. And here we are! Hopefully this post will help a fellow parent in the future as they search the threads when they run in to the same situation.

Happy Sunday to all!

same here

DD's changed to "under DoDMERB review" after she submitted her AMI documents. It changed back to "under waiver review" after the documents were sent on to the requesting agencies.

The BGO only sees "Qualified", "Not Qualified" or "Incomplete." We do not know what was incomplete. We do not know why a candidate was deemed not qualified. We have no information regarding any remedials. We do not have any information about waivers . . . none at all.

Note that the "not qualified" can change -- this usually means a waiver was granted. But all we see is a change from "not qualified" to "qualified." Sometimes "not qualified" doesn't change. That either means a waiver wasn't considered (candidate not sufficiently qualified) or wasn't granted. But we can only infer what happened; we have zero information and, for privacy reasons, we can't get info on a candidate's medical status. We know a WHOLE LOT LESS than the candidate.

Please do NOT go to your BGOs for anything related to your medical status. We can't help you beyond suggesting you contact DODMERB, it's help line, USNA Admissions and their medical person. Or Mr. Mullen:groupwave:
