When the SA application asks if you have been Class President or Student Body President.. what is student body referred to here? Is it

- School student council president
- Any student club president

Thank you

Very simple. Class president = senior class or junior class and so forth. Student-body president = all classes combined.

So being officer of a school club is not counted as being a student body officer?

I mean club is also a student body.. right? I’ll have DD ask this question to USMA anyway.

Student body is usually entire population of a school. Class president is for a specific grade. Club president could be 10 people..

She would be making a mistake to ask this. This is not an area of doubt, "Class President or Student Body President" does not refer to clubs, it is as simple as that. Asking questions about something this straightforward is not the way that she should want to be noticed by Admissions.

Got it.. thank you for the clarification and guidance on this..

I did a quick look up in various well-known dictionaries. “Student body” essentially means the student population of an educational institution. As in, “The University of Maryland total student body is x.” Now, you might say “Maryland’s undergraduate student body is Y,” but we are still talking educational divisions. A high school’s student body = the students in all the HS grades. This is what I always thought “student body” meant, but it’s a good drill to confirm.

This prompt is very clear. They want to know if an applicant is the president of his/her class or the entire student population. Club, team and other group leadership positions are not covered in this. There is plenty of opportunity to address that elsewhere.

There are other areas of the application that it asks about clubs and teams. Answer the one above truthfully, it is straight forward. Student council or student senate are the members from each high school class that works with the faculty on projects that benefit the student body. Some schools have class president for each grade and other schools only have student body officers, meaning all 4 classes these officers (president, vp, sec & treasurer) are usually held by the seniors. All the other members of the student senate/council are referred to as delegates or members.
As I stated above there are other places in the application for team info. Varsity, JV, captain or co captain. And also for clubs such as club officer etc. even for those clubs outside of school such as 4-H.

I would concur asking this question would be a mistake & draw unwanted attention.

Objection to asking question duly noted..thank you so much for the invaluable information.
