My son is a junior and has been using extended time for some tests because of dyslexia. He does not use it as much as he used to and is thinking of stopping it for awhile. Some people have suggested that as long as the student has not used it for 1 year that is fine. Any thoughts? He is applying to the Naval academy and the USMMA

Here is the verbage from DoDI 6130.03, April 28, 2010 with Feb/2011 changes:

b. History of learning disorders (is disqualifying), including but not limited to dyslexia (315.02),
UNLESS applicants demonstrated passing academic and employment performance without
utilization of academic and or work accommodations at any time since age 14.
Seems that there is a chance that your child may be disqualified as (I assume since he is a Junior) he has utilized extended timed test after year 14.

In regard to the dyslexia, all candidates have to read a paragraph during their DODMERB physical that is specifically designed to catch anyone who is dyslexic or has some type of speech impediment. It is sort of a tongue twister and is kind of tricky even for those candidates who don't have the aforementioned.
