Does anyone have any information on leasing a car at USAFA? I am currently thinking about leasing a new car for my last 24 months and was wondering if any parent had some advice who might have gone through the leasing process with their DS or DD or even a prior. I decided not to ship my car here and didn't want to buy a used car here. Also any bad or good experience with local dealers? Thanks for your input.

One of my son's friend leased a car for his last 2 years. He was sent to Germany for his 1st assignment, he turned the car back in and left. Not a bad way to go.

With lease agreements, examine all the fine print about allowed mileage and whether the car can be moved out of state/country. We have leased cars at various points because it was the right thing to do in that particular moment. When I got unexpected orders to HI, the lease dealer balked, but the dealership owner was a former Marine and understood military orders can break a lease or rental agreement without penalty. A just-graduated USNA sponsor daughter of ours leased a car, and prudently reviewed the mileage clause at our suggestion, realizing she would be putting a lot of miles on the car during her two years in the sub training pipeline. She upped the mileage, which raised the lease payment a small amount. She’ll turn the car in at the scheduled time and is now at a paygrade where she has flexibility on what she wants to do next, while also ensuring she sticks to her investment plan and budget.

We did a 2 year lease that lasted through the trip to the first base. Returned it with no issues. then bought a car afterwards and is happy with no mileage restrictions. I thought that was the best deal for my kid.

No leased cars here but my son bought a car after 60 Days, sight-unseen, from a COS dealership, over the phone!!!!! He wanted this super hot sports car and after some online searching, there were only 5 in the whole country in the color, type, etc. that he wanted, and one was in COS. Probably made a huge profit on that 22 year old. He's now married with two kids, driving a minivan. Fencersfather laughs uproariously every time he considers this: super-hot red sports car vs minivan. Yep, he's got the whole catastrophe: kids, wife, house...

The irony is that almost any idiot can buy a car. Leasing one is tough. I leased a car for my son when he was a sophomore. We worked on getting his FICO score up before we tried to lease the car, but they still wouldnt go for it. If he wanted to buy the car, they would have given him a loan. I wound up leasing it with him which isnt good because I had to put on the highest limits for insurance. I had to protect myself.

Hey usafa411...I know a couple excellent lease companies and agents in south Denver so when you hit 5 messages, feel free to PM and I'll give you details...there are 5 USAFA grads in my direct family so we have some experience with such, at least up here 45 minutes north on I25.

Thanks for the info. I have about a 746 FICO Score so hopefully that will not be a problem. Just looking forward to finally having some freedom. Thanks again.

I think it's white. The funniest thing: it's got HEATED SEATS in the rear, you know, where all that heat is covered up by two foot-thick car seats.

Be careful when you lease a car to know your mileage! Another son leased a car and didn't read the fine print (I think he was 23 at the time). Turns out, he had a lease with only 30K miles for 36 months. He lived 85 miles from his job. Parenthood: it's hilarious when it isn't costing money.

For reference, be careful as SCRA does not legally require for car leases to be broken penalty-free under SCRA for PCS orders if the PCS is CONUS to CONUS. You can also break lease for a deployment >180 days. Have had a few acquaintances not do their research and end up burned by this one.
