Hey all,

My candidate portal opened today. Yay!

Of course I looked and saw that it asked if I had ever been placed on probation.

In May of last year, I was sentenced to Probation for speeding 32 in a 20. My town offers a probation period for teenage traffic offenders. By completing the probation program, the traffic ticket will not be reported to the State, and it won't go on my record.

The program consisted of a defensive driving class, texting and driving class, 8 hours of community service, and a 6 month probationary period. I've completed all the requirements and my probation packet is complete, and as long as I don't get any tickets until November 7th, I will successfully complete my probation.

Is this something I need to be concerned about?

Short answer... probably not.

Longer answer, usually those questions put an exemption for things like traffic offenses, they're usually asking about more serious crimes. You might have to explain it, but I wouldn't expect it to be a huge deal.

I would assume (and that's what I'm doing here, just assuming) that they would ask you if you have ever been cited, convicted, or fined for violation of law. This would (probably) be a question before or in tandem with, the question about probation. If you jump to the conclusion that there is some sort of exemption from traffic offenses (especially moving violations) you may be assuming way too much here.

My son got a similar ticket, post appointment. He finished the remedial requirements and ticket was suspended for 6 months. He reported it in total to his regional rep....and never heard back. It was a non-issue.

Of course, he got an earful from myself and his mother....
