Questions about NROTC from a newbie

Greetings! I am new to the forum and I have a number of questions/concerns about my NROTC application.

I submitted my application for NROTC Navy option in late September (of 2016) and I selected a tier 3 major. A classmate of mine finished his application around the same time, but heard back the very next month. Granted, he picked a tier 1 major.

I have been admitted to my first, second, and fifth choice schools and have been routinely keeping in contact with my coordinator since I began my application. As the dates of the review boards continue to pass, I am getting increasingly nervous that I will not get the scholarship. My coordinator has not answered my email in over a week (which is very unusual). As of right now, my application reads that I have submitted all materials, but no decision has been made.

Is my coordinator's lack of response a bad sign? Is it a bad sign that I have not been awarded the scholarship yet at this late of a date? Perhaps I am a little paranoid as I was recently denied from USNA, but I was hoping someone on this forum could give me some insight.
Thank you!

I don't think any of it is a bad sign. Your coordinator might just be busy or even out of town. It is not a bad sign that you haven't been awarded a scholarship yet. Your haven't been refused until your refused. All that being said make sure your plan B, C, D or whichever is the backup to an NROTC scholarship is in place and ready to be executed. Many many applicants do not receive a scholarship each and every year. You need to be prepared.

Good luck... hope you are able to make your dreams come true regardless of the outcome regarding the scholarship.

My son is a Tier 1 applicant who has not yet received a scholarship offer. We are still waiting. There are three (maybe it's two?) boards left... so there ARE people who will still receive offers. Also, some people have already reported receiving the notification that they would NOT be receiving a scholarship offer, even with the remaining boards still in play. If you haven't received that, you're still in the running. Doesn't mean you (or my DS) will be receiving one... but you're not out yet!

Have a plan in case the offer does not come through, but continue, like we do, to hope and pray for an offer!

I agree with all the above; if you haven'y been rejected yet, you are still in the running. That being said, do keep in mind that 80% of the scholarships do go to tier 1 and tier 2 majors, so the fact that you selected a tier 3 major does affect your chances of receiving a 4 year scholarship. If you are not selected now, keep in mind you can join a NROTC unit as a college programmer and reapply for the 4 yer scholarship as a freshman or complete for a 3 year or 2 year scholarship.

Will do. Thank you for your help!
