Hello,

I am a 09R who enlisted into the army reserves prior to ROTC. I have been to basic training at FT.Jackson and completed that, Once I completed BCT I came directly to my college and participated in ROTC, while drilling at my USAR unit. I contracted as a non scholarship cadet because I have a full ride academic scholarship to my university. At the end of my MS3 year I was considered for disenrollment because of PT attendance, and personal reasons that I won’t get into. I am now a senior at my university and I’ve been drilling with my Reserve unit for 4 years now. My disenrollment process took a bit but I was given the option to take it to the CG after the board but I waived my rights because I simply didn’t hold up to the standard. Per the results of my board I owe no money to the Army nor do I have to do any active duty service. My DD 785 was also in my favor and I was recommended to commission by other means. I graduate in May 2020 and I guess my question is what do I do now? Or what with happen to me as far as my reserves unit. I went to basic but I don’t have a true MOS because I’m a 09R.. and I’m obviously not completing the ROTC program so do I just go to a Officer Recruiter when I graduate or What? I just don’t know what my future holds so any info will help.

Your Reserve unit will require you to obtain an enlisted MOS so that you are a deployable asset. You could try for a direct commission, but the circumstances that would not allow you to commission through ROTC will likely preclude a direct commission.

So you think I should talk to a recruiter and talk about a MOS or a Direct Commission

I recommend talking to everyone. If you are at Company level or below I would ask your Commander to let you talk it over with Battalion S1- he/she may have some good options. You are already in, and since recruiters typically deal in accessions they may not be able to provide many options.

" I recommend talking to everyone"... said all the wise people.

My unit is a training division and I’m currently slotted in S2 at brigade.. I don’t know if that makes a difference but my unit is also non deployable.

Well even though you are in a TDA unit all Soldiers must hold an MOS that benefits the Army. What does your S1 say about your situation? Don't worry though- even though it seems sometimes like we are an outlier the Army has seen it all. There is a path for you my friend.

Thanks @JMAWYO, and my S1 has no idea yet either so we are all trying to figure something out as far as the best route for me

Good luck to you. Please let us know how it all turns out.
