I cannot pinpoint where I saw it. There's a message somewhere out there in the depths of the internet that because of the new system, offers might be delayed inadvertently. I assume MrSoapman is referencing what I am thinking of,--maybe, maybe not. I would suggest that they are not behind in any sense though, admissions are hard-working folk and they have already made multiple offers of appointment. That seems like the wrong term...

It seems that way for a number of reasons:

New platform switch, they had this problem with the Naval Academy last year

Lots of errors on my end and things going out later than normal

My ALO can't see much of my information, that could be his error though

First appointment here this year was in late December rather than late October

If they aren't behind, then good on them! It just seems that way to me. I could be wildly wrong about this, and if I am then thank you for calling me out.

Exactly.

Admissions has a duty to deliver a new class by late June. They get it done. USNA got through the live transition to a new CRM system last year and delivered a fine class. Obviously, USAFA likes to have classes pretty much formed by sometime in April with appointments coming out similarly to other cycles, but they have some challenges this year. Think back to the days when this was all done by snail mail, and yes, telegrams. DH received an offer of appointment from WP before he received an offer from USNA, by telegram, requesting an acceptance or declination by return telegram within 72 hours, 7 months after he applied, with no portal updates or comforting green check marks along the way. The portal is a wonderful tool, but like all tools, has its drawbacks in creating expectations in a world used to instant replies and statuses.

I have complete faith in the experienced professionals, uniformed and civilian, at USAFA Admissions.

Given the Air Force is the acknowledged pro at contracting outside resources, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Hogwarts Group landed the sole-source contract to magically smooth out the class-building process with their Agile Sorting Hat protocol and Lean Six Sigma kaizen spells.

I would put VERY little credence in things you see "out there on the internet."

I work fairly closely with admissions during the process. Dr. P has not mentioned any issues with the process in the admissions directorate. There were complaints by ALOs to the admissions folks about the new ALOWEB however that has no impact on candidate admissions; it just really limited our visibility of the candidate's progress. And they are getting that worked out. I've seen a marked improvement in my ALOWEB abilities in the past few months.

USAFA has been, traditionally, the slower of the academies, in making offers. In my ALO career (over 20 years) the process has gone something like this:

1. September (very rarely), October (some LOAs to blue-chip athletic recruits and those beyond-the-norm academic wunderkind).
2. November/December...some more LOAs (small numbers) to athletes and super-standout candidates that are completely finished with the application process. Also, some offers to MOC principal nominees.
3. January/February: see above, but some more offers to "more typical" candidates
4. Middle March - BIG SLUG (like 70-80%) of offers around the middle of the month, sometimes around the third week, although there's no "timeline" that is disclosed to anyone in the ALO field.
5. April up until the report date: offers to fill the class after folks turn down their offers, etc.

That's just how the process seems to play out year after year.

Thanks for putting this together.

I'd like to shape expectations for this year. The new system development is going well, but is a bit behind schedule. Expect LOAs and offers to be delayed beyond the normal time frame. USAFA is working hard to get back on track but asks you to be patient.
