Questions, Chatter, Congrats for the 2026 USAFA Appointment Thread

Finally heard back today and received an appointment to the USAFAPS. I’ve got a big decision to make between that and my other top college. Does anyone have any advice or important things to note about the USAFAPS and what it can do for my future.
Congratulations! By chance, are you a recruited athlete?

By denied admission do you mean not offered an appointment? Typically a waiver review is only conducted if a candidate is seriously in consideration for an appointment, but that's all it is, an implication of a strong/competitive application. The request for waiver is a good sign, but no guarantee. Every year there are people on this forum that received the waiver but the appointment offer didn't follow.
My DD is a recruited athlete (blue chipped), admissions filed and approved/received a medical waiver back in Dec. We are still waiting on Direct or Prep with no change to our portal.

This is a prep school located on USAFA grounds. If you perform well, it is a golden ticket into the class of 2027. Clearly, USAFA sees something in you that they like and want, but maybe feel like you'd benefit from an extra year of prep. At USAFAPS, you will take a doolie schedule. If you complete this, it should make your doolie year easier. Most USAFA candidates would kill for this opportunity, but only you know if it's right for you.

You are incredibly fortunate to receive this offer. Follow through with everything you're supposed to do, and you've got a golden ticket to appointment for c/o 2027. The advantages to having spent a year in such close proximity to and with the Academy are reportedly enormous. (Think of all the close friendships you'll already have!). And your path through the Academy will be easier and/or more fulfilling. 5 years at the school so many dream of attending, would certainly be better than 4, imho, even if the first is only closely affiliated. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe thst as a USAFAPS cadet you're a sworn member of the military, and on the payroll at some level at least. What an opportunity!!!

Congrats! It's definitely a hard choice to make, but my year at USAFAPS truly set me up for success here. It's kind of a drag sometimes that you have 5 years here vs 4, but the friends you make and the lessons you learn from there are something that I don't think you can find anywhere else (and the pay beats pretty much every year you'll have up on the hill). I came from a very small school, so the extra year to brush up on STEM subjects before I got to USAFA really saved me from what would have been a disastrous freshman year. Again congrats on getting into the P, and hope to see you on the hill one day!

Our DD is currently on a waitlist for USAFA. If candidates that are 3Q’d and on a waitlist at this point don’t get in are they automatically considered for the USAFA Prep School?

How do you know you are on a waitlist? Were you notified? Sorry, just curious since I haven’t heard back from USAFA yet…

She has emailed admissions a number of times as well as her ALO. They’ve said her materials have been reviewed and she is supposed to hear a decision soon but that was 2 weeks ago as well as yesterday. I’m not sure how she found out she was on a NWL?

Oh ok! I received a similar response a couple weeks ago as well, so I'm thinking that might the category I fall into right now as well. Thanks for the response!

Did anyone get denied the polio vaccine? I went to the doctors office to get the vaccine and they said that because the CDC does not recommend that I get it again they would not give to me. I showed them the prescription and it still was denied.

Does anyone have advice on what to do?

I recall someone asking similar question in previous years' thread that it was available at local CVS, Walgreens, RiteAid chain drug stores or local health department so you may try calling those in your area.

Okay, maybe I will try calling around and see if anyone else has it.

Thanks for the help.
