Questions, Chatter, Congrats for the 2026 USAFA Appointment Thread

My son started and submitted the PCQ early July and had everything else completed (except for nom) by late Sept.
Also, did your son send 7th semester transcripts? I don't see on the portal that it is required but wondering if that's an expectation?

Last year they were not required; I asked and they said sending was not necessary. I think they ask in select cases where the candidate may be on the fence academically, but if you have already proved yourself in school beyond a reasonable doubt they shouldn't be asked for.

I didn’t expect the response by 4/15, I kept reading 5/1. Thank you for sharing.
Maybe the deadline to accept is different for some (rolling schedule) like the application kit completion deadlines? I was also surprised it seemed "early".

Was your DS/DD a recruited athlete?
No. No LOA either.

We didn't expect the appointment because when he was interviewed about being a pilot, DS said it wasn't currently in his plans and wanted to get into Cyber. But DS also expressed that he understood that cyber offense/defense for Airforce/Spaceforce may involve knowledge of aircraft electronics and he's also interested in that, not just actually piloting in the cockpit.

This DS is a well-rounded candidate, he probably had a fairly competitive WCS. Now, my other DS who's a Junior right now, hmmm...

Congrats! My son has no pilot aspirations either. He is math + physics all the way. Takes all kinds to fill up the class! :)

What does desire to fly have to do with the timeframe of a decision?

Congratulations! I know you must be so proud! How was the ACT score?

Just curious, my son is a college applicant (not reapplicant) - the USNA told us they don't even begin to review/look at college applicants until January- Does anyone know if this is also the case with the USAFA?

It's competitive - though he said he'd forgotten some of the math topics because he took them in middle school and didn't do as well as he wanted. He only took two ACT tests with self-study using Khan Academy and march2success and didn't want to sit for another one. Plus it's hard to find test schedules in NorCal.

He only took June and Sept tests, the earliest we could get as we needed to submit for the nomination applications.

That’s a great score. Very bright young man. Congratulations & Best of luck to him.

Thank you. He's excited to be an officer and esp be a part of Cyber offense/defense. If he didn't get any appointment, he said he'll still serve his country as a civ contractor subject-matter expert. He's serious too, he felt our country had always been a major cyber target and would like to make an impact and be part of the team - military or not.

Does anyone know when the cadet book/handbook with instructions will appear in my DS portal? He received his appointment this week.

Last year it opened up on March 1st. I would recommend knocking as much of it out as possible as fast as you can, especially all the vaccinations. I showed up on I-day with a completed vaccine record and was able to skip forward quite a bit. If you don't get the required shots, they will give them to you on I-day which sucks because you have to get like 5-10 shots within 2 minutes and you'll probably feel groggy on the first day of basic (I-day doesn't count) which will hurt you and your classmates. Also, I've said this a few times, but tell your DS to enjoy some free time!!! There is a lot you take for granted that you won't know until it is snatched away from you. Have some fun, be a high school senior, and spend time as a family. The 23's and 24's are running the next BCT and they are going to come out guns blazing, so be ready to go. If any of the 26's have questions about BCT or Doolie life, feel free to DM me.
