Questions, Chatter, Congrats for the 2026 USAFA Appointment Thread

looks like someone made a parents group page. Are these usually run by someone "official" or just by the parents?
This is the FB page I found. I would like to know if it's legit too and who runs it. They're asking to have the LOA emailed to them (at a Gmail, unofficial, email account) for verification. I don't think they should be asking for that. I don't want to provide that info to random people.

It is legit. The LOA or some type of correspondence is required to prove you are a part of the Class of 2026. A lot of good information!

It's legit.

Thank you for verifying before joining. I am one of the admins on the page.
The USAFA Parent Liaison is a member of the group as well.

You will be asked for proof that your candidate has been offered an appointment because we vet all members to ensure OpSec and PerSec (operational and personal security). The group is "private". It is only for parents/guardians. Extended family, siblings, girl/boyfriends, etc. are not admitted into the group.

We do not have an "official email address" because, although we have USAFA and AOG representation on those Facebook pages, it is not USAFA run.

I am posting the links to the USAFA Parent Support Pages which list the Facebook pages sanctioned by USAFA (once I have moderator approval).

new to all of this...what is a falcon scholar?
Just to add on to what FlyFalcon said...

The scholarships are actually given out by the Association of Graduates (AOG). They get a list from USAFA of candidates that are still highly desired but there is no more room at the Prep School or USAFA. There are a limited number of scholarships -- just a different color of "golden ticket" if you do well while there.

My ALO just sent me an email containing this information.

“Normally the Air Force Academy would be issuing appointments by now. I just received notification that we won’t see appointments until the end of month or later. The majority of those appointments should be offered by April 21st. After that date, If you did not receive an appointment, there is a possibility that you may be offered an appointment to the AFA Prep School or a Falcon Foundation Scholarship to one of six prep schools around the country.

Another major change this year is that you will have only a brief period of time to accept or decline an offered appointment. If you receive an appointment prior to April 8th, your acceptance deadline is April 15th. If you are offered an appointment after April 8th, you will have one week to accept.”

Thoughts?

I can see my DS beginning to resign himself and make hard plans to go to university and use his AFROTC 4-year. My fear is if he does wind up being offered an appt he will just go with AFROTC. I know it's his decision but I sure wish it wasn't this late this year.

I hope this is not true, but if it is, it is what it is...

I'm not surprised given that the admissions office has only this year moved to Sales Force as their primary management tool (learning curve).

The reason for the "brief period to accept" is probably because there needs to be time to offer appointments to those next in line should someone decline an appointment. I know of several who got appointments in mid-April, but by that time they had already accepted to other universities and made plans (often accepting ROTC scholarships).

Do a search on "USAFA clubs & spirit committees"

The 2026 Parent spirit committee is the 2026 Parent Group on Facebook.

I mean they are issuing appointments though, I think just a majority of people getting them aren’t on this forum. Maybe the next big wave has not hit yet and will come out more paced from now until mid April from what he wrote.

One of the main mottos for the military is “hurry up and wait”. Not surprised by this new due to what previous individuals have put in the forum (delayed appointments due to system change). All we can do is wait and be hopeful!

There have only been a few appointments. Mostly ICs and preppies based on what I see on the 2026 parent group.

The "big release" won't be until end of March (est.)

Does anyone know how counselor verifies school activities? Does USAFA provide them with the list I gave them and ask the counselor for verification, or just ask for a new list from the counselor. I don't keep touch with my counselor very often, and I'm pretty sure they are mostly unaware of my extracurricular activities, I'm worried they may have said that I didn't participate in something, that they weren't aware of.
