Questions for CG of Cadet Command

I'll ask my school's current PMS when I see him at Cadet Command. We'll be at the Saber and Quill at noon 10 June. If anyone is in the area, come on in and say "Hi".

My question likely covers a small group, DS is majoring in Psychology because he hopes to be selected to fill one of the slots that there are rumors are opening to specialize in PTSD and transitioning psychology. What things are CC wanting in selecting psychology majors to fill these slots , how many are going to be allowed to go to Phd so they can be a prescribing psychologist and how many counselor/ social worker level BS/BS' are they opening?

The OP might have a better answer to this than the CC CG. He might even be a PsyD.

I used to coordinate the Coast Guard's involvement with the open house (air show) at Andrews.

At one of the briefings I kept hearing "the CG will do...." "The CG has agreed to..."

I kept thinking they were talking about the Coast Guard and were saying we had agreed to things we never agreed to.

This thread is doing the same thing...

At some point I caught on that CG was commanding general.

So...

I published on a similar topic in the journal Military Review:

It's just a rumor. The Army tried the prescribing psychologist pilot a long time ago. Psychiatrist and Psych NPs were too territorial and their lobby was stronger. We have a few prescribing psychologists, but it won't become "a thing." The primary method of filling psychologist slots will NEVER be ROTC. LTHET, direct commissions, USHUS, and HPSP will fill the ranks. Ed delay for Psy.D./PhD is the exception, not the rule.

The military only recognizes two "therapists", psychologist and social workers (masters level and higher). BS social workers or anyone with an undergrad has the opportunity to apply to the Army MSW Program through HPSP or LTHET.

Congratulations Major Mabry. Very nice article, enjoy the ceremony.

Dr. G,
After following your posts for five years on several sites, I am privileged to have a picture to attach to the name!
Congratulations. Even though my son is no longer in a medical branch, I look forward to your posts in the future...

This forum has some amazing and wonderful resources participating in it (@Capt MJ @clarksonarmy , among many others).
Dr. G is clearly one of those folks and I appreciate his expertise, and his kind offer to field questions for his upcoming meeting).

I hate for future Soldiers and officers to be misinformed about their careers (especially in 2016). I truly cringe when I read DD or DS wants to be [insert medical specialty] and commissions as a Chemical Officer (sorry CHEMOs). I just want folks to follow the right path.

So after my National ROTC Hall of Fame luncheon with General Hughes (super nice btw), I've come to the conclusion Cadets will be pushed through to commission now matter what. He even said if a PMS doesn't think a Cadet is ready to move forward as a Junior or Senior (Army-wise), they are authorized to send them to (or back to) CIET. It's definitely a different ROTC.

Again Juniors and Seniors, if you're a jacked up Cadet; you're going to CIET as an upperclassmen. Think of it as the ROTC equivalent off a dunce cap.

Does this mean that you believe tbe CC is more willing to approve med waivers now that possibly in the past would not be approved as well?

I didn't get that impression. Big Army hasn't loosen their med standards for enlistment. Once I see the standards loosen for enlistment, I'll make a comment about it on the forums.

Dr. G.
I interpret your remarks as meaning that CC will pushed "harder" during the four years of AROTC, not "pushed through no matter how marginal a cadet he/she is".
Am I correct?
