Quick ALO Question

Hi guys! This might a dumb question, but heck! So I recently got in touch with my ALO. She said that she is the ALO for my high school. Will she only help students at my school (If so, that is great because it allows for more help )? I checked on the USAFA and the other high school that is 3 miles from my house, and they had a completely different ALO. Thanks

From what I understand, it's really what the ALO wants to handle.

They are volunteers, and can do as much or as little as they are able. But what do I know, maybe one of the ALOs on this forum *COUGH*Flieger83*COUGH* could better help you out.

There's a good chance that your ALO is in charge of more than one school. I myself am the ALO for 8 different schools. As well as any kid from those areas that may be home schooled. When it comes to which ALO for which school, part of it is where the ALO lives. Part of it is what schools need an ALO. It's also not uncommon for the bigger cities in a state, with multiple high schools, to have multiple ALOs, because this is usually where a larger majority of interest comes from.

In your case, she is definitely the only ALO for your school, but your school is not the only one this ALO takes care of. There's also times when ALOs might need to add or change out some schools; albeit rarely. Such as, if an ALO has some things happening in their life at the moment, and needs to get a different ALO to take care of a couple of their schools for that year. Or, like me and an ALO from a nearby city; we aren't allowed to be an ALO for any school if our kid goes there and they are applying to the academy that year. Last year, I had to take over a school from an ALO because his son was applying to the academy and he went to that school.

So, you don't have to worry that another ALO is sharing your school. It's just one ALO. But, your school isn't the only school your ALO is taking care of.

I had been talking to a local ALO since I was in middle school. She did a lot to help me throughout the years even though she was not technically my ALO. The ALO that was assigned to my high school actually didn't do all that much for me besides the interview. So I guess it just depends on the ALO...

ALO's are as different as people are.

I know CC has helped candidates HERE as well as at his "assigned schools." I'm willing to bet that he's helped others as well.

I've done the same; it's a passion of mine. Heck...I've got "one of mine" at USAFA right now that's from NC...we worked closely here on the forum, and offline...and his family and mine are now friends.

That being said, some ALO's...they do the job: nothing more, nothing less. Others like CC and me...

Thank you! It's nice to know that there are helpful and caring ALOs out there like you and CC!:shake:

i thought your local alo isn't restricted to just one school. i'm pretty sure they just preside over a certain area sorta like moc's and their districts.

flieger83, hi i had a question and was wondering if it'd be possible for you to answer it. this was quite some time ago last year but apparently my originally designated alo ended up being on the review panel for my moc so i got reassigned to an alo not really local to me. i was originally supposed to meet my first alo and have my interview later on since they were local to me but after i was switched to another i didn't get a chance to meet my new alo.

well my point is, it ended up that i was told that interviews were supposed to be already submitted and i think my reassigned alo had to do mine past the deadline. i think they said it shouldn't be a problem but i was just wondering if this is common? i don't believe i even saw my original alo at my panel meeting for my moc either. i just felt this was a little strange when i was going through the app process

Grateful for Christcorp and Flieger83

Without any background in military at all, much less this process, this forum has been an invaluable on-line community ALO. Christcorp's advice and encouragement has been a huge gift in the details. (We hope to drive through WY this summer and meet you to say thanks face-to-face. Hopefully on the way to visiting the Academy :)

I appreciate the kind words. Don't forget if you get to the academy during Parent's Weekend, that "Thudgate" is where many of us meet up face to face. This forum is indeed a great place; and it's because of the contributions by ALL posters. ALO's, Alumni, Cadets, applicants, parents, and those simply interested in the academy.

Even better. Hopefully to connect at Thudgate!

It is a GREAT gathering! Short of a catastrophe, CC will be there and I hope to be there...so far, so good in planning!! :thumb:

Had to google Jeremiah Weed...

...and discovered you weren't talkin' allergy issues :)

Arg, DS did not get the appointment. There is still room for a surprise, and there have been miracles in the air lately. If we get to Thudgate, it will be a Jeremiah Weed-worthy event. Blessings to you, Flieger and Dad.
