Ive tried to look for this online myself, so if it is out there can you point me to the right location?

DS applying for class of 2017.

Do we need to bring copied of medical records, immunizations, charts files, etc to the DoDMERB exam? Should we be working on getting copies of all old medical records?

Remain calm. First the application has to go in and your DS or DD has to be judged "acceptable". The SA will then send a request for physical to DoDMERB and subsequently you will get a package from Concorde (their contractor) that has who/where to call and schedule your appointments and there will be a very long medical history form to complete. Complete that form and take it with you to the exam and give to Dr. No copies of records are required at that point.

You don't need med records and such unless a remedial is requested. They take you at your word on the medical history but don't get caught lying!

If you think there may be a DQ issue you can get the records now and be ready if/when a remedial is requested.

I know the process is a little confusing but I hope this helps and good luck!

When I went to my medical exam I signed a release for my medical records basically saying that DoDMERB could access them and ONLY use them to determine my eligibility,

The only thing I would add is that not all things that require medical records for DoDMERB remedials are obvious (treatment for a broken leg would make sense, but would everyone know that something like eczema might also?). If you google DoDMERB remedial codes you might get an idea if there could be any issues in your child's history (the list will seem long).

Also, if you feel there is a possibility it may be difficult/a long process to get records from a medical provider for whatever reason, go ahead and request them even if you don't end up using them. My son had surgery as an infant (so 17 yrs before going thru this process) but continued to see the dr. for followups until about age 10. The doctor had changed document/records storage sometime after my son turned 10 and couldn't produce the records when I asked for them. Luckily the hospital and my son's primary care physician still had their records of his treatment and followup appts. and it ended up being enough to satisfy DoDMERB. But it took a while to get it all. We started the process in August and he didn't get reviewed/qualified with waivers until December.

I agree with ProudTexan64 and AFAYahoo.

You will not receive DoDmerb packet from Concorde unless you become an official candidate and complete substantial part of application.

DS broke his bone while playing football when he was in the 6th grade. He did not need any surgery, but needed to have a cast for 6 weeks and he went back to play football. I was worried and wanted to request his record from the orthopedic doctor ahead of time, but they said that his record was so old and was going to take a long time to retrive from their archive. DS's Dodmerb exam day came, and the doctor said the DS did not need to submit his record as he did not need any surgery and nothing was inserted to his body. DS was qualified.

One tip that I leanrned from reading this forum was that DS avoided strenuous exercises before the DoDmerb exam. You need to avoid at least two days of extensive exercises before the exam. I forgot what the reason was. It was somthing to do with urine testing.

Team Mom, you're definitely right about not exercising before your DoDMERB exam. All candidates should avoid strenuous exercise 2-3 days before the exam as exercise can cause too much protein in urine. If that happens, one would have to retake the test to make sure it isn't something else more serious--you won't pass DoDMERB with high protein. So candidates should sit back and relax a few days before--and drink plenty of water too! That helps keep things in balance. This recommendation will be in the paperwork you get about your medical exam, but I can't remember if it explains why or not.

I remember hearing that, but still did a very demanding workout only 2-3 hours before I had my medical exam.

Still, I must have passed since I was accepted...

Glad it worked out for you, pilot2b. Maybe because it was only a couple hours before your exam, there wasn't time for it to get your system out of balance. But for all 2017 candidates that still have to take it this upcoming summer/fall, I would still avoid exercise before your exam. I do know someone that had to go back a week later and redo the exam because of this issue. My son's DoDMERB exam site was 45 min. away so would have been a hassle to have to redo--he just played it safe and skipped the exercises for a couple days.
