i called my bgo this summer and introduced myself
he was a really nice guy but hasn't been doing this long
its my fault since i havent kept up contact, but is
it possible he's forgotten who i am? and do i need to reintroiuce myself when i call him again?

I'd say right now he's probably really busy with the impending class of 2014! Did he give you an email? My son met his ALO (AF version of BGO) also his sophomore year at a Service Academy Day. He didn't meet or call him again until his formal interview this summer (before senior year), but did send him occasional email updates - when he got his new class rank, or his varsity letter for the first time, or great ACT scores. Even if you keep in contact a couple times between now and next year when you apply for summer seminar, that will probably be more than enough. After that, you can update him more regularly and seriously.

Having already made contact is a great first start. If you do call him again, I'd just remind him quickly of who you are (Hi, sir, I met you at blank...) and maybe ask for an email. Great way to keep in touch without feeling like you're interrupting/inconveniencing him. Good luck!

ok thanks

okay that makes me feel a little better, but im from alabama and i have never seen anything about service academy days in my area. where can i find out about them?
i also just got my sat scores and scores from a pre-act test that everyone in my grade took

Ours were sponsored through our senator's offices. You could call your local congressman and/or senator's office and see if they know anything about something like that. Or check with your school's guidance office and see if they ever have any visits from the academy reps. Or call the local recruiting office and see if they can give you any suggestions of who to contact.

I'd let the BGO know about your SAT scores (if you're happy with them). Again, I think email works best, but maybe you could call him, let him know, ask for his email, and ask him if there are any "Academy Days" or similar programs in your area. Ours had a cadet/mid from each academy speak, along with a few officers, then the senator's reps spoke about the nomination process, then each academy had an area where you could go and talk to the reps/cadets, etc. in a more social setting. I've heard of them in several other states - usually in the fall.

....

I suppose i'm happy with my scores, but i have no frame of reference as to what a good sat score is, as its not an extremely popular test in the south (act is preferred by most southern colleges)

so i will call my bgo tomorow and do more research on a service academy day, even though i have no idea what one is like

We are in Alabama and when my son was applying 2 years ago neither Senator sponsored an Academy Night that we knew about, although they both have nomination info on their websites and also staff in their offices who handle nominations. Our Congressman (district 6) sponsored an Academy night and I would suggest calling your Congressman's Alabama office and asking if he/she will be hosting anything.

BGOs tend to show up at career days, college fairs, and congressional service academy days, so those are good places to look for him/her. When you find a BGO ask for a business card so you will have his/her contact information. Contact him periodically if something significant has happened in your academic, athletic, or community service areas during your sophomore or early junior year.
