Hello,

I recently decided to quit lacrosse my Junior year. I wasn't as passionate I use to be and because of that I couldn't be the best player nor teammate. I've played my whole life including my Freshman and Sophomore years of Highschool. However, I'm much happier and productive.

Are there any recommendations of what I can do to fill in this gap? It's too late to start another school sport this season.

Do something you enjoy, or interests you.

Also, be prepared to address this in your BGO interview. It’s something I would ask about.

Will do. What extracurriculars look the best. I recently started Jujitsu and plan to compete, as well.

Thankfully, my BGO and I are extremely close and he already knows my decision.

Burnout happens.

Jujitsu is fine, but suggest you look into a team sport and / or a sport that requires running / strong cardio. I suggest you find a summer sports league (most communities have them) or maybe go to a camp for a sport that interests you. Baseball / softball, swimming, soccer, volleyball, basketball, cross country, field hockey . . . Try something new. That way you can pick up the sport in the fall / winter.

Pick something you enjoy. Nothing you pick now is going to have any major positive or negative impact at all.

But you did quit your main sport because you were not the best player and you could not be the best team mate.

This reasoning I would not include in any SA essay or interview. This is not a good look. This is the opposite of what they are looking for.

I read the OP the same way at first.

I think he was trying to say was he has lost interest in lacrosse, and therefore he isn’t performing at his best as a player and teammate.

Maybe talk to the coach and see of there is a manager or volunteer assistant coach position that would allow you to help your team?

We see a lot of this in the running world where the kids started when they were 5 or 6. By the time they hit high school, they were totally fried and not very interested, even some of the most talented ones.

You either have to find the passion again, or move on to something else you enjoy. And spin it to tell it as a good story when asked.

yes people change sports for a variety of reasons

saying, like it was above, that quitting was because you could not be the best player on the team or the best team mate, are absolutely words you should not use.

And I’d not use burn out either as a reason either.

You want to project strength. And the ability to be a great team mate even when life sux and you are not playing much.
