R Day Packing List

Hi! I’m a female and just finished my plebe year. If I were you, I would also bring black sports bras (really any color other than white). You will spend lots of time in the field and doing PT, the white sports bras may not fare too well. However, this is merely a suggestion and will not make or break your beast experience!
Feel free to reach out to me at any time with questions!

Anything else you would define as highly important to critical?
Thanks!

Recommendation for the red head lamp?

There are multiple versions, but the one I found I bought at an Army Exchange prior to R Day. Only red lenses are allowed in field environments since it is considered “tactical.” It was the only light we had during the night while pulling security, conducting hygiene, etc

Do you have a brand and model? Many thanks. Tough to find the right one on the net.

Honestly, I can’t remember the make/model and can’t check since it’s in my bag that has already been sent to camp Buckner for CFT

How do girls blow dry their hair? Especially during BCT

Speaking as a squid-person, I will be professionally interested in replies to this from those who know. When I was in an operational environment, I used a hair chamois to soak up the wet, a bit of defrizzer/detangler in the palms, big tooth comb through, and a fast braid/twist/bun and done while damp, 6 minutes max. At USNA, assuming the women get the usual plebe chop, it’s wash and go.
I assume there is not a lot of personal puff and fluff time in this particular training environment.

I do not feel like there will be time nor necessity for puff and fluff either, but I genuinely don’t know how it’s possible to dry very long hair quickly without a hairdryer. Yes, I know I could cut it, but I’ve been growing this out for years after my mom gave me the classic bowl cut for my first 15 years of existence so I’d rather not go back to that

Likely you'll simply not wash it very often because you will not have time to dry it. Yes that does seem like a gross option, but there are many aspects of beast that are gross - esp to those who are accustomed to daily showers and personal grooming time. I do know that some females with thick hair have learned the hard way that when you don't have a chance to properly dry your hair, it will mold. So, not washing it often may be a better option to having it mold.

Dry shampoo may be helpful during BCT. My son was a shorn sheep last summer but my coworkers swear by it!

Order this elastic blousing garter from Amazon or I think you can find it at Cadet store too.Screen Shot 2018-06-25 at 11.09.00 AM.png

OP likely just commissioned as a 2LT and probably isn't scrolling here anymore. The packing list will be posted on your portal. It will likely be very similar to the one posted here.

After I read this thread, I reviewed the list of "Optional Items for CBT."
It says "These products will be available/accessible to Cadet Candidates at the Cadet Store (C-Store) during CBT."

All these optional items will add up weight (Ouch!). Is it really worth bringing all these optional items rather than buying them at the C-Store?
Some "personal" items definitely can be purchased in advance but I think that any relatively "heavy" & "bulky" items would be purchased at the C-Store. The problem is whether or not the Plebes can find the time.

If you look at the required items in the list, it's mainly all the shoes and face mask. Plus plain, solid swimsuit for the ladies.

Whatever's needed will be issued. Everything else is optional.

The recommended ones were said to be available for purchase in the Cadet Store. And it was indeed mentioned that cadets will have time to buy from the C-store during beast.

Everything should fit in FAA approved carry-on bag. These info are explained in the pdf "packing list".

Noted OP was from 2018. I believe the packing list had been updated for 2022, so please do read it and not depend on previous lists.
