R-DAY SAF dinner

We stayed up in Newburgh the night before R-Day and it was not a problem at all. really. You go in through StonyLonesome Gate anyway. there was no traffic back up at all.
No matter what hotel you stay in within 20-30 miles or what restaurant you eat at it will be full of New Cadets and their families. You can pick 'em out!

JAM, when your DD went, did she show up the day before with the Prepsters, and we're they allowed out for a meal like is being suggested here?

I have seen the itinerary for Prepsters before but I can't find that thread, do you recall the Prepsters day before?

Note: we probably cannot do this in Highland Falls, considering the numbers. I can't find anywhere large enough. One good option I have found is Painter's Restaraunt. http://www.painters-restaurant.com/home.html It is an estimated 13 minutes from USMA, takes reservations, and can accommodate large groups. Thoughts in this option? Other suggestions?

As a note Painter's is an EXCELLENT restaurant. I'd allow for a 20 minute drive though. Less or more depending on your driving habits and conditions on Storm King. You should never count on 218 being open, but it is a quicker (albeit more dangerous) way of getting over to Cornwall-on-Hudson.

One more thing, I will let you know as soon as I receive an appointment, something that I am anticipating as from what I've seen and heard it is quite likely. If it happens you can count me in for 1-3.

Besides that there aren't many other options sadly. A decent place to go would be Nicole's, they're a catering outfit in Highland Falls, they have a private room in their upstairs that I think holds about 50. Keep in mind they;re caterers so it would be a significantly more pricey event. Here's the website: http://www.nicoles.com/about.html

Personally I'd go to Painter's if you can, they have great food.

If you are going to drive, why not go to Central Valley and get a big table at TGIFridays or Chili's? Probably some of you already are staying at the Hampton right there anyway...

mom3boys,

Don't interpret this wrong because you have a great idea. I'm just sharing my two cents. I've lived here for close to a decade now. TGIFriday's and Chili's can be found anywhere. Painter's on the other hand is unique to the Hudson Valley and it's not hard to get to from Central Valley either.

Also it's hard to guarentee that a Chain restaurant will take that many people at relatively short notice.

As I said before, if you can schedule the event at Painter's tavern, do. It's an exceptional place.

Okay, guys, I will definitely look into Painters. It has a an inexpensive sandwich and burger menu, a bar menu, and a slightly nicer dinner menu, so there should be something for everyone. And, considering our group size and it is the day before Rday, someplace that takes a reservation is probably a REALLY good idea.

dinner

Son says "maybe"... put us down for 3... I think it would be fun, and maybe "easier" than a dinner where I might be tempted to give advice etc the night before his biggest step forward in his life so far.

Painters is a great choice! You will really enjoy it there. :thumb: Keep it in mind on other visits for Sunday Brunch (not for Plebe's since it is outside walking privileges).

They reported on R-Day - not with the Prepsters. We stood in line with everyone else. She and her crew all went out the night before R-Day and it was loads of fun. We parents had a lot of fun learning first names and putting names to faces. Many of us had heard our kids talk about their kids - we just had not all heard the same stories!

Getting a nice relaxed meal the night before is a good idea. Even if you guys don't know each other and are nervous you will enjoy meeting one another. You might later even discover that some of you are in the same company and that will make it a little easier too.

I said maybe before but we am going for sure, still four. Is painters pretty much confirmed?
