R-Day.......

Deb who?

She sets up these accounts for every class. You'll spend the whole day searching for your Plebe. Happy Waldo hunting!

@USMA_ljm - Glad you set up the H company page. I joined this morning (and just posted a pic of my cadet). It's so much easier to Waldo hunt when you know what company you are looking at.

I'm having a hard time adjusting, I would love to see a picture of him but I haven't had any luck-he is in G company

It's funny, because at the initial briefing when we got our last hug we were told that there were 1308 new cadets, then at the briefing at 3 pm were were told it was 1298, and then at the oath ceremony at 6:30 they said it was 1304. So who knows what it actually is, and maybe it's a floating number because people drop. Either way, it is about 100 more than I expected, and hope that isn't because they are planning on losing more this year by attrition. The strong will survive though.

West Point wants to graduate 1000 per class, so they admit more. Looks like they expect about 300 to leave prior to graduation (which is a little higher than in the past few years).

I wonder how many exit during beast, during first year, then after second year.

Usually after Thanksgiving its not fun anymore and figure its not for me. Then winter break its a slug in the stomach, academics are much more than they can handle. After their first year honor and academic boards will leave a few behind. Usually a 100 at this point. But the really gut check is just before their yearling summer. And just before affirmation, they realize there summer time fun was non excitant and don't want to commit. Usually 100 will not continue. So the tally give or take a few is 250. This year was odd when 25 or so were separated for various reason during their Cow year before summer. Those are the ones who will need to choose to pay off their college experience or enlist. Most will enlist.

I hope that helps

I sincerely doubt it.

40-50 during Beast.
It is not unheard of to have some leave on R-day. My son's R-day - there was a guy in his group that was shocked at how 'military' West Point was. Not what he wanted and he started the separation process before the end of the day.
Some will separate right before graduation.
You won't see numbers on how many separate when, but you hear about them through your cadet, the parent FB pages, friends, WPPC etc.

You are inviting a father to look for pictures on the Moms' page? Not cool.
Your very quick to judge. Brovol states he had been looking at pics "through the Facebook group,". I am posting pics to the parents page class of
2020-So cool.

You probably need to look at what I quoted a little closer.

A female NC in my grad's class refused to get off the bus after the 90-second good-bye and started outprocessing.

During my USNA BattO time, we all shook our heads over the I-Day plebes who got shots and a shaved head/chop cut, then decided to walk away.

I always wonder if it was Mommy and Daddy's dream instead of theirs.....

Yes, and they competed for the nom, competed for the appointment, because competition is what they were good at, made their schools and family and friends proud - but neglected to look in a mirror and ask themselves if they wanted to serve in the military for at least 5 years, embrace military culture and lifestyle, and plunge themselves into an immersion service academy. Some boarded the roller coaster and couldn't figure out how to get off. The operational manpower analytics predict this and other attrition rates. Still awkward, sad and bewildering to family - who probably just dropped a bundle on t-shirts and football tix.

Making sure candidates understand what they are getting themselves in to, is one of the things that FFRs are tasked to do. The kid I mentioned above that didn't understand how military WP was, probably didn't do his research and/or the FF did not educate him on what going to WP really meant. He turned down Harvard to go to WP for the prestige and the academics while not completely understanding what the term 'military' meant in the United States MILITARY Academy.
We also try to be keen on who may be applying bc the parents want them to - particularly children of grads. Sorry to you grads out there, but sometimes y'all are the worst about pushing your kids towards your SA. Agree with Capt MJ - once the ball starts rolling, they find it hard to stop it, especially when grad parent is so proud.
