Hello,

I know that during the summer after your Freshman year, there are various programs like Jump, Soar, RPA, etc; however, I was interested in attending Ranger School. Is it possible for a Cadet to go through this program? If I can't as a Freshman, maybe during my Sophomore, Junior, or Senior year?

Ranger school is an Army program. You may want to pose this question under the Military Academy forum. IM sure some of our Army experts can help you out =)

No. For a variety of reasons. The easy answer is it is more than three weeks long.

I don't believe ranger school is an option even for cadets at USMA. I have heard of a select few going to sapper school in the summer. If you want to be a ranger you should apply to USMA.

Marines, sailors, Air Force as well as Army personal can and do attend ranger school.

The Army’s spec ops Ranger Bn is a whole different thing.

No. But if a Cadet were to commission the opportunity may arise when they are operational but the chances are rare. Air Force has its own special warfare teams that can embed with Rangers, Delta, Green Berets. If interested in more of that, look into TACP / STO / CRO.

I said I did not think it was an option for cadets, which it is not. If his interests lie in doing more of this kind of field training, I simply suggested he may want to apply to USMA.

Ranger school is not offered as an option for service academy cadets/mids because a straight through completion is 60+ days long. The summer schedules are too tight to allow for participation in such a program, and the schedule for classes likely does not line up to support that opportunity anyway.

The bigger point is why would the Army want to spend time, money and resources on a person who may not commission in the end. I realize chances are he will, but not every one does for various reasons. I would assume that people get hurt at Ranger school. You would then be endaring going back to the academy
