Been scouring the official website for stuff, and I've gotten a good idea of the organization of the regiment, but I still have a few questions:

1. Are there any actual ranks in the academy? It seems as though there are only billets.
2. How is Company, Battalion and Regimental Staff organized? A chart would be really great.

You are correct that USMMA uses billets rather than ranks for Midshipmen. There are currently six companies, 1-5 plus Band Company. I have never seen an organizational chart, but I agree it would be great.

Hmm, perhaps someone with more recency than I, or a better memory can comment better, but as I recall, each company had midshipman officers, a company commander (midshipman LT) and an exec (midshipman LTJG). Each Battalion (made up of two companies) had a Battalion Commander (midshipman Commander) and an exec (midshipman LT). Then there was the Regimental Staff, the Regimental Commander (a midshipman Captain) and his exec, a midshipman commander. There were others on the staff, and I forget their ranks for the billets. . . Oh, and each company also had a CPO that was in charge of cleaning stations for the Plebes. . . . . When I was there, we had 7 companies, 1-6 plus Band. Three Battalions. . . and, of course, one regiment. . . There were three rotations of officers in the various billets during first class year.

This isn't true I don't think.

Every billet has an associated rank. So a company commander would be a Midshipman Lieutenant, and Platoon Commander would be a Midshipman Lieutenant Junior Grade, Etc.

As far as the org chart squad leader -> team leader -> platoon commander -> company commander -> battalion commander -> regimental commander

You've also got company, battalion and regimental staff officers. Things like a company academic or fitness officer.

In the 90's the ranks went basically like this:

RC - M/N CDR (5 stripes)
RX, ROPS, RADJ, RHBC and BCs - M/N LCDR (4 stripes)
Rest of Reg Staff, BX, Batt Staff, CCs - M/N LT (3 stripes)
PCs, Company Staff - M/N LTjg (2 stripes)
Rest of 1/C - M/N ENS aka Zombo (1 stripe)

They started beefing up the Petty Officer program for the 2/C and every M/N Officer had a Petty Officer and the 3/C were the squad leaders.

The barracks were neatly organized in that each deck (floor for you landlubbers) was a platoon and each building was a company made up of 3 platoons. Delano hall separated the buildings with each side being a Battalion with the Band being the red headed step child as is to be expected.

What I was trying to say is that the officer positions and billets are rotated, so that the officer designation goes with the billet rather than with the Midshipman. The competition for regimental positions is often intense, and the battalion and company positions less so. All those billets are decided through a written application process followed by a formal interview. The PC/PO positions are relatively easy to get.

Are you sure it's squad leader before team leader?
