I have seen several mentions of rates that need to be studied before I-Day. When will they be sent/where are they located? I know Reef Points will be handed out during I-Day.

They stated several things to know in PTR gouge, chain of command, 1st 3 general orders and Mission of USNA. Answers are listed in Reef Points section of Welcome package near the back (around plebe summer stuff).

This tends to be an often contentious subject on here each year. You can do a search to see those older threads. Your PTR will inform you of things you are expected to know prior to I-day this year and it may be different from what was asked in the past. Bragging about all of your advance USNA knowledge is clearly something to NOT do once you become a plebe.

Those items are expected to be known on I-Day
Thank you! Found them.

The annual handbook of the Brigade of Midshipmen will be issued to you on Induction Day. During the course of Plebe Summer, you will be required to commit portions of it to memory and be familiar with all of its contents. When reporting for I-Day, Plebes will be expected to know VERBATIM the Mission of the United States Naval Academy, the administrative chain of command, and the first three General Orders of a Sentry

The Mission of the Naval Academy To develop Midshipmen morally, mentally and physically and to imbue them with the highest ideals of duty, honor, and loyalty in order to graduate leaders who are dedicated to a career of naval service and have potential for future development in mind and character to assume the highest responsibilities of command, citizenship and government.

Your Administrative Chain of Command: Commander in Chief: President Joseph Biden Secretary of Defense: The Honorable Lloyd J. Austin III Secretary of Navy: The Honorable Carlos Del Toro Chief of Naval Operations: Admiral Michael M. Gilday, USN Superintendent of USNA: Vice Admiral Sean Buck, USN Commandant of Midshipmen: Colonel James McDonough III, USMC

First Three General Orders of a Sentry: First: To take charge of this post and all government property in view. Second: To walk my post in a military manner, keeping always alert and observing everything that takes place within sight or hearing. Third: To report all violations of orders I am instructed to enforce.

Sorry I was not clear in my post. I was inquiring about the required material to be learned before I-Day

Unless the PTR specifically states certain knowledge to be known by I-Day, don’t bother! As mentioned above, be blissfully ignorant. You’ll learn what you need to learn during Plebe Summer. The detailers will be sure of that. Showing up knowing it all will not garner you extra points. It may draw unwanted attention. You may become “that guy/girl.”

Focus the next few weeks on running, running, running. And spending quality time with your family and friends. That’s worth infinitely more than knowing Reef Points front to back in time for the swearing-in ceremony.

Please know your social security number also. Also know your sizes. Yes, you will probably be asked for that as a part of the PTR, but that is really only used for stock sizing and for those really tall and big athletes who have size 18 feet. You will walk around I Day getting measured and asked your size a million times. You will get to try it all on and exchange it if it doesn’t fit. Please know the size drawers you wear. I can’t tell you the number of appointees who just stared at the nice worker and said, ‘I don’t know, my mom buys it.’ (Not joking).

This place is a treasure trove of experienced information. Thank you to all who contribute!

Not required, but might be a good idea to read over the biographies of the chain of command. No need to memorize but knowing what communities and maybe interesting facts (hint: CNO has some interesting background). Side note, the supposed VCNO nominee (rumor is also floating around that she will fleet up to CNO) was my battalion officer at USNA…she is a great leader and highly qualified.
