USMA sent correspondence yesterday that Rday will be spread across the 26th, 27th, and 28th of June. The cadets will be notified later where they will fall on those days. Families will not be allowed and likely will drop off at the gate similar to last year. This is a huge disappointment but not unexpected. My question is, will they prioritize those with graduation or classes ending nearest to these dates to have the later times to report? My DS's last day of school is the 25th and his commencement is on the 27th. He is sad that he may not get to walk with his class at graduation. If he was moved to the 28th, that would be perfect. I know there are quite a few other northern states likely in a similar situation compared to the southern states who's school years end earlier. Does anyone know if I can talk to someone about this?

Last year's R day was delayed until July, and many schools had likewise delayed Graduations in July and August. Those cadets just had to miss their Graduation. Many parents posted stories on the parents' page of their Valedictorian or Class President who filmed his/her speech and it was played at Graduation while they were long gone at Beast. I'm not sure if they would take individual situations into account, but just know that if your DS misses this milestone, he is in good company, as heartbreaking as it would be.

This happens every year and it is very unlikely that anything can be done about it. It’s really unfortunate for the families it affects. I’ve had a year of learning to embrace the suck, as they say, and one thing I can tell you for certain is that West Point doesn’t want to hear from the parents. All decisions made are with the needs of West Point and the greater Army in mind. My advice is not to do anything to call attention to your son prior to R Day and roll with it. I know it would be disappointing, but do everything possible to spin it positively for your son and find your own ways to celebrate, take pictures and make it special. This is the beginning of many times you will need to dig deep, let the Army have its way, and support your son through challenges and disappointments over the next 4 years.

There have been rumblings here at Prep that Dr. Jebb, the husband of BG Jebb, has told R-Day might be pushed back to the 7th of July due to COVID and the state of the virus. That also doesn't make sense for R-Day to run Saturday- Monday rather more Monday- Wednesday. Hopefully, look for that to change, any more insight from rumblings INSIDE the academy are welcome.

Do you know when they might announce our change of R day? I have not heard anything about it being in July.

Given the most recent correspondence, I would expect we will know for certain by the May 25th date mentioned in the letter to candidates. Certainly hate to see them continuously moving the target, but at least we know now that they are planning a three-day R-day. That idea almost certainly will not change, even if the dates might get moved around.
