RE: Patriot league cacelled

Mark my words, there is no way that USNA and USMA are going to play big Ten schools this year. Not because they don't want to, but because they don't want their football players coming back from UofM with Covid-19. They are playing this way too cautious (at least right now) to open up the Brigade to something like that, especially with a bunch of Firsties headed to The Fleet.

Nope. Not gonna happen.

I believe it’s the right move. But, as a former athlete, I also know how crushing this would be. I feel for the Seniors the most. It was their chance to lead a team and all the work for 3 years for their last times. At a SA it’s different. They don’t get an option red shirt and come back next year. I know they will deal with this and handle it like professionals.

I wonder if with USMA isolating and testing, maybe they could get in an Army/Navy game at least. Be kind of great if they could get the USMA, USNA and USAFA together with a ‘bubble concept’ and play a tournament of sorts. Low risk, SA rivalry going, keeping the Mids and Cadets healthy ultimately.

I like that idea. I think that's a real possibility, given that all the SAs are a part of the same team using the same protocols.

A few sports (Football and VOST to name two) are not part of the patriot league. I assume most, if not all, will follow suit with the Patriot League Decision. I don't see football cancelling the season.

VERY tough on senior athletes...

With spectators or no? Guess we shall see...

Football isn't part of the Patriot League, and isn't affected. They are still planning to host ND on Sep 5 in Annapolis

they are working on how many tickets they can sell, i've heard maybe 10-12,000 max from someone in the ticket office, but it's still up in the air. which is why they didn't bother trying to get NFL stadium in Baltimore for game.

for the mids, they might be looking at marching over to the stadium, sitting in a segregated area with distancing, then marching back to the yard after the game - no touching or breathing anything on the way to/from

i think there is a good chance that the American conf. plays football, along with the Power 5s. whether Navy goes along remains to be seen.

then again, all football might get moved to spring time

I think the justly-famed NJ Parents Club Tailgater at every home game may well be mothballed this season.

COVID is messing with tailgaters. Just not fair.

by UofM, you MUST mean University of Minnesota, because there is no way Michigan players would do something so nefarious as to spread COVID-19. ;)

In our state there is actual talk about flipping Fall and spring sports (mostly talk at the high school level I believe).

We were the first to go forward with high school sports, having summer base ball and softball. But teams are dropping like flies. Presently, looking towards playoffs, not sure every district will have a team.

...

Per ND's agreement with ACC yesterday, supposedly they are not allowed to play this game unless it is in Indiana. (the "acc or ND" team's home state)
Curious if this had a loophole carved in, if they have to move it, or if they have to cancel it.

Here are some articles on this new development.

No doubt the operational risk analysis is going on right now. Risk traveling the team? Lose lucrative TV revenue and break cherishes tradition?

Thus will go up to SECNAV level, at least.

Wow... interesting change. Wonder if Navy will bite the bullet and travel to Indiana. Going to be interesting. Alot of money at stake.

Honestly I see traveling as low risk. They charter their own planes anyways. Flight crew is small anyways, everyone wear masks. Hotel arrangement is low risk as they team isolates sort of anyways as the team eats in large ballrooms or meeting rooms to begin with.

Wasn’t so long ago that it was an amazingly beautiful trip to Ireland.
