I recall reading a thread about good books to read to help parents support their kids while in a service academy or active service. I am unable to locate that thread and Amazon isn't very much help today. Does anyone recall what the titles were? I appreciate any help. Thank you.

There are numerous book written by various sources. You should keep the source in mind as you read the material. The most famous is the Long Gray Line but it was based an West Point during the 60s. A new cadet's life in this book is completely different to what one would experience today. Some newer graduates have also written books that may have more recent experiences. You will also find documents written by parents and local support groups.

In my opinion, the best place for advice is your local parent's group who have experience with the academy today. The Superintendent and Commandant greatly impact the day to day lives of these cadets and change frequently. The Sup is in his first year and there will be a new Com next year.

My friend and fellow USNA Mid Mom, AN Shine has a great guide on Etsy called " A USNA Mom's Journal; Tips and Wisdom from Our Plebe Year and Beyond." $1.00 from every book purchased goes to the Midshipman Welfare Fund.

Also, another Book by a USNA Mid Mom, Elaine Brye called "Be Safe, Love Mom" is an excellent resource for parents of military kids at any stage of their military journey. Elaine has officer children in Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marines!

Bought this book for my wife and shortly after starting to read it put it. She said it was going to make her "too emotional" and would have to come back to it later. I started reading it and would agree that it really does tug on the heart strings. All that aside, it is a good book.
