Hello to all!
My family and I have been browsing the forums and have been so appreciative of the discussions and facts exchanged.....thank you to all for a place where we can come and ask, seek, ponder and plan safely and without judgement. However, now is the time to jump into the community as my DS begins his application cycle and it’s hard to believe, but here we are!! He will apply to USAFA and AFROTC for Fall 2022 entry.

Just wanted to say a quick hello and thanks for this forum!!

Good for you! Assuming your DS has been building a great academic record and has or is on track for a leadership role, the next best advice I can suggest is that your DS focus on working out over the summer and do his CFA right at the end of the summer. Get it out of the way so he can focus on school and college apps in the fall.

Wish you the best!

Great advice thank you!
We are very proud of the journey that he has taken to get to the start of this other journey. He has been heavily involved in CAP and thoroughly loves it and actually has been working on the CFA/strengthening for a couple years. He is on the XC and track teams but upper body strength is not his strong suit. He could not even do one pull-up when he started and now he’s almost at goal.
We are excited that things are coming together! We are also being mindful that there are many paths to serve and we are hopeful for Fall 2022 entry at USAFA or AFROTC but will embrace whatever is offered.

Thanks again for the encouragement 😀

Make sure DS is organized early and often! Keep a log of who, what, when, and where he has sent or requested things, especially if he branches out beyond just USAFA and AFROTC. I played safety net in the background to make sure things didn't get lost, misplaced, ignored, etc. These are great kids, but, on their very best day, they are still teenagers.... I personally treat them like the Russians during the cold war, Trust but Verify! Good luck! Also, practice the CFA. My DS worked long and hard on it. He was able to get free advice from a trainer for the shuttle run. In retrospect, it probably would have been worth paying for a trainer to help with the details. He is a 2025 appointee though, so it all worked out. Also, he needs plan B, C, D, E, etc.....

Thank you for the guidance.....there are lots of items on the list to tackle and he can’t wait to get going!!

Arrange for your letters of recommendation this spring. Teachers will be inundated in the fall.

Great idea! We were also going to be sure to have their contact information over the summer for whatever is needed.... his teachers and guidance counselor have been very supportive and are willing to help in anyway they can.
