For all those newly appointed and parents with new appointees, Fencersmother mentioned in one of the threads to make sure and bring "appropriate ID" to get onto USAFA. To elaborate a bit more on what "appropriate" is, here is an excerpt from an Air Force Base explanation of what kind of ID is required for entry (please especially take note of the five states that are non-compliant). I only provide this information because I would hate for anyone to make a trip to see their sons/daughters and be turned away at the gate.

Since September 15, 2016, Air Force Bases no longer accept the following state issued driver licenses (DL) or state issued IDs that do not meet the Real ID Act of 2005 standards for unescorted access purposes: Maine, Minnesota+, Missouri, Montana and Washington+.

Persons requesting access with one of the listed state DLs or IDs will also need to present, along with the non-compliant DL/ID, one of the documents below to prove identity in order to be issued a pass or given unescorted access to the base(s):
- U.S. Passport / U.S Passport Card
- Foreign passport / Permanent Resident Card / Alien Registration Receipt Card / Certificate of Naturalization / Certificate of Citizenship / Border Crossing Card
- Identification card issued by Federal, State, or local government agencies, provided it contains a photograph and biographic information such as name, date of birth, gender, height, eye color, and address
- U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Cards/Credentials
- PIV or Federally-Issued PIV-1 Cards (Personal Identification Verification) issued by the Federal Government or Non-Federal Government entities
- DHS “Trusted Traveler Cards” (Global entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST)

Persons requesting access with a non-compliant form of identification and cannot provide a supplemental document as listed above, must be escorted by a DoD ID cardholder at all times while on the AFB.

+Federal officials may continue to accept Enhanced Driver's licenses from these states.

From Washington. So, do you know if enhanced DLs are accepted? I don't believe we have any of the other IDs you mention above.

I noticed that Capri120's post had Washington & Minneasota with a + symbol after them. I am wondering if that means the enhanced DL's you mention.

Yes. Best to check with the Academy to be sure.

For Appointees, their "permit to travel orders" will get them on the Academy grounds regardless of other ID.

Something else to keep in mind...gaining access to a military base or service academy may be the least of your worries come January 2018, unless it is extended again. The TSA and airlines will no longer accept non-compliant IDs for boarding aircraft.
