Hello, So I applied for the class of 2022 but just in case I am not accepted should I start the application over starting March 1st? Hoping there is another thread on this that I didn't see.

If you don't get your appointment for class 2022, go to plan B. Goto a University or AFROTC and keep up your grade and Leadership, and YES reapply for the class of 2023.

I'm going to put in a good word for prep school. I attended NWP on a Falcon Scholarship, and, while I am on scholarship, it was well worth it. If you are dead set on the academy and are a competitive applicant, do considered attending a prep school. Northwestern Prep and the Durbeck's have an amazing program, and will prepare you well for the academy.

I dont know if the prep school is considered a college or not, but others have said not to do that. Your better bet is to go to a 4 year college and take the same type of classes you have would have taken at the acadmey and if you can excel at a decent college with those classes, you will have track record that demonstrates you would do well at the academy. That is why they say dont go to community college. For those who get the Falcon scholarhip, that is a whole different thing and from what I read, it is the golden ticket. However, i think its different from those who just get a rejection letter. Showing proof of achievement at a four year college along with Rotc will demonstrate you committtment

It’s all a matter of perspective. Each year there are many dedicated and qualified applicants who enter our nations prep schools as free agents with the intent of applying for a service academy. To many, this shows the ultimate commitment to work towards your goal to attend the academy. However, I agree with Humey above in the fact that rotc is another excellent route or choice. Either way, demonstrating persistence in applying works in your favor. Do consider all your options. Best of luck to you

There is a big difference between sponsored prep and self prep.

Sponsored is a no brainer if the academy is your goal. Do your part and you will get in next year.

Attending prep on your own is an all or none proposition. You may get an appointment but if you do not, the year of classes will not add up to much.

Attending a four year university allows many more options as things change.

But, I agree that each situation is different. Some students would benefit from a year of prep school before they attended any college.

For my DD the decision to self prep came from the weakness in her original application... ACT scores. Something a year of college & ROTC most likely would not have helped improve. NWP gave her a great understanding of all the SA and encouraged her to apply to all of them. In addition NWP helped strengthen her application in one semester and she is now in college for 2nd semester. Since she took courses in high school so she will still be a sophomore going into next year if she doesn't receive an appointment. So no lost year as some would indicate. If she does receive an appointment, she will be very well prepared and have a support system of all her fellow NWPrepsters, self prep and falcon scholars...they are all family now! So it depends on what you need to improve in your application, for us NWP was the best option, and we know her time there was well spent no matter what the future holds.

YES to reapply, NO to March 1st (unless you already have a TWE). Don’t jump the gun. Many who do not receive an appointment will not be informed until April/May. If you get the dreaded TWE, then begin anew.
