In the event reapplication to the naval academy happens, are NROTC scholarships available for the student who takes the freshman plebe load at his own college on his own dime? What I am asking is reapplying for Navy and applying the nrotc path as an incoming college soph ?

Just as outlined above, going the ROTC on campus is a great way to enhance our résumé as well as show the SAs that you can do college-level work. You will also be able to compete for a 3-year scholarship in ROTC. Both are great options. I've had three students follow this scenario, and all three received appointments in the following year as college freshmen and ROTC members. Good luck with your journey!

Out of curiosity, as my DS is attempting this path and awaiting a notification, how was the performance of those who successfully re-applied?

All three were strong candidates when they applied as high school seniors. One was awarded an AFROTC scholarship so he reapplied to USAFA as a freshman at Ga Tech. The others were non-scholarship participants with AFROTC on campus. At least two of them joined the Arnold Air Society too. All were very good students (with ACT of 31, 34 and SAT of 1420 across the three), played sports and had good leadership credentials in high school. I worked with them to discuss their strengths, successes, etc. in both their essays and their interviews. I hope that helps.

Yes, thank you. You could be describing my DS if you swap 4 year NROTC scholarship, the rest of the stats are spot on. What’s left is the intangibles. The essay, interview, competition on his slate, etc.

In general, he is loving his college experience, he is doing very well in his classes and excelling in his unit. This will be the only time he reapplies. His plan B is super solid and in his mother’s opinion, superior to USNA as he is closer to home. Either way. It is an adventure!
