I plan on reapplying to the class of 2017, I receieved my TWE the last week of June. I will be attending a state school with a 4 year AROTC scholarship. I got a D in my 8th semester of high school. Its my only D in my high school career. Will this affect my chances? Also, aside from participating in ROTC what can I do to improve my chance for the class of 2017?

take math and science courses your first and second semesters of college. I decided I would take history/writing intensive courses, and that was the largest factor (so says my liaison) in my being passed up for selection. ALso, yes, the D will obviously hurt. I know matter-of-factly that it disqualifies your from USAFA (according to the candidate handbook released 2 JUL 2012), but im not sure about USMA.

The one "D" is not the "kiss of death" but it hurts. WP is looking to see if people get "seniorites" the lasr semester of HS - you clearly did and it will be noticed. Best bet - show "As" and "Bs" in college math/science courses.

Just make sure you do well in college and don't slack off. A friend of mine was appointed to be class of 2016 and five days before starting got his appointment pulled because of the one D on his record in his final semester at the CC he was going to. Long story short, he was offered a prep school slot.
