If you apply for a nomination and receive it, but do not get into the academy you received the nomination for, are you any more or less likely to receive one again (the following year) for the same academy, from the same MOC/Senator?

If anything it would mean that they would grant you the nom again- they already gave it to you once and liked what you had to present. Now you have a full year to add and improve things on your resume. It can only go up!

I have sat on a few MOC boards. Reapplicants get asked a lot of what did you learn from the process, why again, what did you learn in college, etc. Don't count on a Nom, be prepared to earn a Nom again by busting your hump just like this last year. Thinking because you earned one the year before you would automatically get one is not a good mindset. Everything is earned.

Yes agree on Presidential. But again, over 800 qualify for it and only 100 can be appointed with it. Just as competitive to actually earn an appointment via a Presidential Nom.

How/where can I improve if I am going to NAPS in July? What can I do in 3.5 months to show my congressman on my resume?

@Trackgirl1999, they will explain it clearly at NAPS. If you cannot get a nom from MoC they could use a SecNav nom. As long as you continue to do well while at NAPS, it's pretty much guaranteed you will be in class of '22. Hence we call NAPS a "golden ticket". Enjoy the rest of HS and make good choices!

@ktnatalk Thank you for the information. When I read over the 2017-2018 packet it stated that I would have to begin the nomination process before I entered NAPS. I just have a few extra things I have done this senior year(joined Econimics club, captain of the hurdle section). This will be interesting.

Having been through this with DD, I suggest contacting the MOC offices and asking what they will "hold" in your file and what needs to be completed for new nom process. If possible, getting this done before leaving for NAPS or Foundation is recommended.

I'd suggest state clearly on being grateful for the opportunity at NAPS, and that you are undeterred and continue on your journey to attend USNA next year. Tell them what you are still doing, and what new things you are trying. If you are worrying about what if they have better candidates seeking noms: don't. You can't control that, and in the case that happens, NAPS WILL TAKE CARE OF IT. As long as you follow their guidance, there is nothing to worry about.

Contact each MOC's office. For my DD, one had her submit final HS grades and send any updates; one only wanted a new essay; and one required a whole new application.

This will be interesting.
It's actually the opposite. You are going through what is required of you, but this time the outcome is already known. Just make good choices and enjoy the remaining time with friends and families.

What Hoops describe here is for other nom reapplicants, quite different from those in NAPS when you have to turn in the application before summer is over:

I think as a college reapplicant, your goal should be to receive the nominations from all sources for which you are eligible (including both senators and congressman) and NROTC, if you are doing that. That means 4 nominations. Also, work hard to be a principal nominee for your sources. As I understand, one of the college reapplicants from our district became a principal nominee last year for the congressman and was later appointed for the class of USNA 2020.
