Reapplying Process

Hello everyone,

I was curious how the reapplication process works if you don't get an appointment straight out of high school, but still interested in reapplying once your in college.

You'll go through the same application process. Service Academies don't do transfers, meaning you'll start from freshman/plebe year if you are appointed. You'll need a transcript from your first year of college in addition to your high school transcript. I may be wrong on needing both HS and college transcripts, so someone can confirm.

Before diving into reapplication, take some time to reflect on what might have held you back. You may be able to get feedback from admissions, but it could simply entail you taking stock: was it academic or leadership or athletic or some combination where you fell short.

Then set about rectifying that. And make sure you take a plebe-like schedule wherever you go to college, e.g. calculus, chemistry, English at freshman level or better. Build good relationships with your professors. Get involved in ROTC if the school offers it.

In addition to what has been said, the only item that you will not have to duplicate is your DoDMERB exam which is good for two years (assuming no major changes in medical conditions.) For all other items they will be purged at the end of this year’s cycle and you will be starting fresh. As previously stated, if you decide to attend college (community / four year / junior / …) participation in ROTC will offer another new avenue of nominations. You will also note that all of the self-reported appointments so far on SAF are service connected (parents retired military or JROTC / ROTC) because those nominations can be usually acquired much earlier in the cycle than “traditional“ Congressional nominations.

I was a college re-re applicant(two years in civilian college) and made it in. I'm very familiar with the process so PM if interested.

My daughter was a re-applicant. First talk to you RC and find out what areas you are lacking in your application. Then figure out a plan of how to strengthen those areas. My daughter had low ACT score but basically checked all the boxes in the other areas. So rather than go to college and re-apply she chose to go to a prep school that focused on increasing her ACT/SAT scores. She was accepted and graduated from USMA last spring.

Hello, I wish I could PM but I don't have 5 posts yet. I am a college reapplicant and was curious as to why you didn't get in with the first reapplication and what your college grades/GPA were when they accepted you. Thanks!
