    Hello,
I I applied to the US Military Academy and Naval Academy as well as the Army ROTC scholarship program. My applications for the Naval and Military Academy were stalled due to a dodmerb disqualification and I sincerely believe that the waiver will not clear in time for me to be offered admission. Fortunately, I have been offered and accepted a 4-year ROTC scholarship that has cleared my waiver within the first week of receiving it. I'm obviously grateful for the scholarship but I was wondering if it would be possible to reapply for the Naval and Military Academy next year while I am on scholarship with ROTC?

    Thank you for your time

    -Philmont

Yes. Many do. ROTC can be an additional nom source.
There are many threads regarding this topic here on SAF.
USNA has a re-applicant info page on USNA.edu
Work hard, be a good cadet or mid wherever you are, take a plebe-like academic schedule, earn the recommendation of your chain of command, and bloom where you are planted.

Many go through the this path. There is really no secret sauce here, as Capt MJ's mentions above, keep working hard, be a good cadet and do well in a challenging schedule. There is a nomination category for ROTC cadets. The only thing I would add is to commit to the ROTC program and not mention you want to re-apply the first week. While you will need to work on your congressional nominations early, the academy will not evaluate your application until they receive your first semester college grades. The ROTC nomination is just a two page form that your chain of command completes. Ir can be done pretty quickly.

I completely understand. This year I got my congressional nomination quite easily as my district is fairly non-competitive. I have absolutely no problem becoming an officer in the army through my ROTC program yet while I was at Naval Academy summer seminar I got a taste of plebe life and quite frankly I'm hooked. I will double down and fully and embody my commitment as a ROTC Cadet first and then quietly work on my service Academy applications.

I really appreciate your thoughtful feedback

My DS did exactly what you just asked about!Last year a waiver was never requested & he won ROTC school. He went off to school, loved ROTC so much it confirmed he wanted to reapply. He participated in every part of ROTC. He told his PMS, who fully supported his passion. He made deans list, contacted local REP for a nom as well as doing the ROTC nom. This year a waiver was requested & went thru pretty fast ( 2-3 weeks). Beginning of March, MOC called to tell him about appointment to USMA, portal updated following weekend, BFE arrived week later! Follow your passion!

You prob have until May 1 to accept rotc offer, and if by some chance your waiver and an offer of appointment comes through for usma or usna you would still be able to decline the rotc. Keep your options open, I believe I have read of late appt after accepting rotc and them being able to take the offer even after accepting rotc.
Lots of cadets are not direct appointments coming from prior service, rotc and post high school prep school. Do not give up on your dreams.

DD was offered and accepted an ROTC scholarship last spring, and then USMA came calling. The ROTC folks fully understood and there was no issue with reversing field on the ROTC scholarship. It was a great opportunity though, and I think she would have been happy going that route as well.
