Reapplying to USMA

Agreed on the timeframe. It shows dedication.

I'll have finished Calculus II by my next round of SATs, so you're definitely not alone there!

I haven't spoken to my PMS about a nomination yet, but I'm going to talk about having more options to commission (I'm noncontracted in ROTC, so I'm pursuing all opportunities). I also definitely want to try again [reapply] since USMA was such a big part of my high school career.

Not to hijack your thread here, but I have a question regarding college SOEs. I have a Math SOE, and I should have a PMS and English SOE by the end of December. My school has the quarter schedule so I may not have Physics until fourth quarter, after the file deadline. Would this be a problem?

That's a good question. After I got some answers on this thread, I went to look at the course plan at a few of my top choice schools. At at least two of them, I would be able to take Math OR a lab science in the first semester but not both. Between the required courses for my major and the core curriculum, there isn't a lot of extra space in the schedule. If that happens, I would have at least one class where I couldn't get a rec until January at the earliest.

I believe West Point needs three SOEs total, but only two of them have to come from college professors if the candidate is in college (please check with your admissions officer to verify). If you are reapplying, you might be able to use the SOEs from the previous year, but at least two of them should come from college profs.

Example:

High School student: 3 SOEs (HS Math, HS Science, HS English)
College student reapplicant: 3 SOEs (College Math, College Science, HS English or any other variation that has at least two college courses)
College Student, 1st time applicant (College Math, College Science, College English)
The reapplicant might be able to throw a PMS in there instead of the College

Nogo: College student reapplicant (HS Math, HS English, College Science). Not enough college SOEs here.

Hope that made it clear as mud. Again, this is not verified with West Point Admissions, please verify with your admissions officer before acting.

It appears they published a new instructions for candidates which I missed that does make it seem that reapplicants need to have SOEs from three college professors in the before mentioned subject areas. Not sure if that is a hard rule because it might be difficult for college students at colleges that only take three classes a quarter to meet the requirements. I would definitely check with your admissions officer for clarification and until you hear otherwise from them, follow the written instructions on your portal. Sorry for the confusion.

The Portal instructions say 3 for sure but I also read the 2 like you said.

Currently on my portal I have 3 from high school and 1 (math) from college. I will have PMS and English for sure.

Regristration for my second semester/last 2 quarters opens up in two weeks so I'll try to schedule that last class in 3rd quarter, but if not I'll ask my FFR to be sure. I've had some weird "What if's" with my school's academic program, haha.

Thanks for the advice, it was very helpful!
