Sorry I do not know the correct terminology for this site …. But my son received a call from his US Representative congratulations him on his appointment the USMMA.. My question is how does he know he just received his congressional nomination on Wednesday….. and what do all the acronyms? Mean “DS” etc.

Welcome new member of 9 minutes!

There is The Acronym List on the home page of SAF (this forum). “DS” is a common Internet forum term for “dear son.” Use or not as you wish.

The SAs (service academies) give the MOCs a heads up, so the MOC can make a notification call if they desire.

It can happen that fast.

Congratulations to your son.

Congratulations to your son!
He'll see the appointment in his application portal soon. They usually give Representatives a few days before to call and tell applicants in their district, if they choose to.

Congrats dad. In Navy Medicine, a DS is a dependent son. Same with dependent wife, etc.

I usually just say, my son. If he knew I called him dear he would choke me out.
True but DS is quicker to type my other college forum often uses S or D and graduation year. So S25.

Congratulations! I'm jealous, even though I am already retired military . The whole DS and DD threw me off a bit too. I just call him my son although KH for knucklehead would work just fine for me too.
