Yesterday (03/15/18) I received an email from usna stating
"Good afternoon. You are currently in the medical waiver process for the medical disqualification that you have received from DODMERB. I have attach a Orthodontist Transfer-Patient-In-Active treatment form. Please have your Orthodontist fill this form out and return it back to me. Do not send the form to DODMERB. "
Does anyone know if this is a good sign? To me it looks like a transfer form, not really a waiver form (which I previously had filed out). If anyone has any experience with that I would really appreciate hearing it!

My advice is to drive directly to the orthodontist's office, with an addressed stamped envelope and the form.

USNA probably wants assurance that your treatment is done (or will be done by I-Day), and you aren't showing up on June 28th with braces.
That's just a guess on my part, as I know nothing of your DQ.

It may not be a good sign but it can't possibly be a bad sign. Get it done!

Thats what I thought at first but with looking at the forms its all information about my current treatment as well as a last page stating that If i sign this i am agreeing for another orthodontist to complete my care.

Interesting. Your care is ongoing?
If the type of ongoing care is okay with USNA, then sign the papers!

One might assume that the other orthodontist is one at USNA. That's the assumption I owuld make.. if I were into making assumptions.

I assumed this as well.
It would seem that USNA just may just need your OK to continue your care at USNA (With USNA's orthodontist).

Ok, confused parent here. OP: did you initiate this process by filling out a form when applying so that you could keep going with your braces? Or did they initiate this? Asking bc DS has braces & the word-on-the-street we’ve encountered was just to have them removed (our orthodontist actually seemed familiar with this). On Monday we see them, so any clarification appreciated. Note: DS in active treatment, but medical review didn’t even bring it up. Yes, i read what i could find online.

It's more than word on the street;

"Current orthodontic appliances for continued treatment are disqualifying. However, if you are undergoing active orthodontic treatment that will not be completed prior to your entry into the Naval Academy, you will be considered for a waiver. Retainer appliances are permissible, provided that active orthodontic treatment has been satisfactorily completed. In the event orthodontic treatment that was to be completed before I-Day cannot be completed, Admissions Medical must be notified immediately for consideration of a waiver. All waivers will be considered on a case-by-case basis with discussion between your orthodontist and USNA Dental Clinic orthodontist. In general, if the orthodontic appliances are compatible for continued treatment at the USNA Dental Clinic, a waiver will be granted."

I initially filled out the orthodontist form for DODMERB, and got that signed and sent off. USNA reached out to me on this, it was completely random.

Certainly not an authority whatsoever about anything USNA...however, I DO work in the dental field.
My first question for the OP is: Is your orthodontia the typical metal/ceramic brackets with wires...or are you in Invisalign treatment with buttons attached?
Second...I have seen one of these transfer forms before and it typically is requesting information from current orthodontist about your orthodontic progress...when it began...when it is expected to end...how you are progressing.
My guess is that a Dentist/Orthodontist at USNA needs to be sure that he/she has the means and the equipment to complete your care, should the waiver be granted.

Not sure if this helps, but I would think it is a great sign that they are putting in some effort here to ensure that your dental needs are taken care of should an appointment be forthcoming.
