When will orientations most likely start? Are the appointees assigned a specific prep school to go to or do we get to pick (MMI, GMC, NAPS)?

Congrats! If you search for CGAS you will find plenty of info on these forums. They will hold several online orientations look for them to start soon after regular decisions are out. Normally, they begin as an overall CGAS group then you will have school specific orientations. As for which prep school you will go to there are several factors. Were you recruited to play a sport? If so you will normally go where that sport is prevalent (for instance football players will normally go to NAPS). You can put school requests in however. But bottom line is CGA will put you where they want you, though.
Congratulations again and best of luck!!!!

Congratulations! My son is a sponsored prep scholar for USMA at GMC is very happy he chose to go there. All of his friends there agree that it is a great choice for prep school! A small college town so enough to do on a weekend (look up Milledgeville), 1.5 hours from Atlanta for airport to fly home, an hour-ish from UGA, but most importantly great support from the leadership. I can only speak for USMA but we heard they had 28 civilian spots last year (not including USMAPS) and 9 of those students chose GMC. I don't know how many scholar spots CGA has but my son said 26ish CGA scholars are at GMC as well as about 10 each from USNA and USAFA (so almost 60 scholars who are part of a larger Corp of Cadets). He also considered Marion and New Mexico but is very happy in Georgia. I would recommend reaching out to the leadership at each school and perhaps visit if possible. Best of luck!!!

And GMC began early August but the scholars from USCGA went to training 2-3 weeks before that specifically for CGA. They are actually enlisted in the Coast Guard but the other scholars (USMA, USNA, USAFA) are not. I'm sure the schools and your Field Force can explain it better than I can.

My cadet went to GMC as a sponsored prep scholar last year and has frequently commented on how well it prepared him for WP. Beast wasn't difficult because of GMC physical training and the math preparation was outstanding for the WP courses. And agree that Milledgeville was a great location for all the reasons you mentioned.
