Receiving two nominations?

2 weeks ago I received notification from Congressman Holding (NC-2) that he had nominated me to USNA, and a week ago Senator Tillis (NC) notified me that he had nominated me to USNA as well. Is it usual to receive two nominations or is this an anomaly.

I am not boasting or bragging, I just want to manage my expectations of receiving an appointment to USNA.

Also, has anyone received anything from Senator Burr (NC) yet?

Many people get two. It allows you to compete on several different slates. Your chances will depend on how good your numbers are compared to others on your slate, so nobody can really give you assurances.

You only need one nomination to get in.

While it was many years ago, I had two appointments to USNA - from a Congressman and from another Congressman. I also had an appointment to USMA and USMMA. It presented no problem whatsoever... That is until it came to lightg that the Congressmen were in different states. It got sorted out. :bump8ls:

I am literally in the exact same scenario! Nomination from Holding received for USAFA and another from Tillis. Also, nothing heard from Burr yet however I researched his nominations and you won’t hear anything till late December / early January.

As for 2 noms that is great. Each senator can only have 5 people at the academy at a time (across all 4 years.) so, if someone else gets the appointment open for Tillis, you could still get one open for Holding. Thankfully we won’t be taking an appointment away from each other since we are applying to different academies :)

Congrats on the noms, hopefully I’ll see you at the ceremony in Charlotte on the 6th! I’ll pm you my name in case you are there.

I will be attending Senator Tillis' Nomination Ceremony on the 6th and would love to discuss our respective nomination processes if there is time.

Hi, Wondering if either of you know the general number of candidates seeking nominations in NC CD-02. And did you get nominations from Senator Burr? Thanks!

I am not certain of the general number of candidates seeking nominations in NC CD-02 at all. We were completely left in the dark about that statistic. That being said, Senator Tillis nominated 20 candidates to USNA last year, so he will likely only nominate 10 during the coming years. Not the news you were hoping to hear I am sure, but I thought you might want to know.

Also, I did not receive a nomination from Senator Burr, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't apply to him. You should apply anywhere you can to increase your chances of getting a nomination.

Lastly, I was not Appointed to USNA, but I will use my NROTC scholarship at UVA. A different path, but not necessarily better or worse. Also, that speaks to the fact that getting into USNA is kind of a crapshoot, even though my Blue & Gold officer and I both thought I was a strong candidate.
