Hi everyone! Since being appointed I've been getting myself all excited reading these message boards and threads so I thought with my recent experience I could help a few of you out and answer any questions about my personal experience with the application process cause I know it's a crazy and hectic time for everyone applying.

So to get started I attended the second session of the USNA Summer Seminar this past summer(2012) and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.. I highly suggest those who are unsure if the academy is right for them to go because they do a great job of showing you what plebe summer and year will be like (way watered down of course, we aren't their property yet) but that is where my tangible interest began. Because of my experience this summer, I knew the academy was my number 1 college and I wanted to put all my focus on it.

Now for some numbers... my gpa is a 4.3, I'm #45 in my class of 478(barely scraping the top 10 percent so nothing amazing), I'm currently in 4 AP classes, swam varsity for four years however I was never captain which I feel is important to share, current treasurer of the national science honor society at my school, and I regularly volunteer. My best SAT score is a 2080 all in one sitting and my super score is a 2090. I chose not to take the ACT because to be honest I was getting sick of taking standardized tests and I was happy with my SAT. While at the academy for NASS, I took my CFA with the following scores, keep in mind I am indeed a girl. Pull-ups= 4. Push-ups= 75. Mile= 6:45. Curl-ups= 89. The rest get a little hazy as I did do it in summer and I didn't ask for my basketball throw and shuffle run score. All in all, I would say train for the CFA the best you can, aiming for the max out score, but if you are strong in some parts and not so strong in others it's no big deal.

At the end of my experience with applying to the academy I would definitely say the most important thing is to show your clear interest and to get in all the materials you can as fast as possible while still being as competitive as you can. I was able to receive an LOA from the academy while I was waiting for my nomination that I think definitely helped in obtaining that nomination. I definitely feel that if I had just waited to receive my nomination before completing the B&G interview I may have not received my nomination. So definitely try to submit all documents and have your B&G interview as soon as you can. One last thing I feel is important to share is that during the whole process, I felt like I wasn't the best athlete or leader or student, but I did the best I could do and showed I really wanted to be at the Naval Academy next year, my parents weren't forcing me to do it, it was me putting in the effort. This will definitely come up in your B&G interview so make sure you really want it. Well, I feel like I've talked enough already so if you have any questions about the process at all definitely ask and I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible. That being said that could be a day or go because my midterms are coming up and I'm stressing haha. Anyway good luck to anybody applying for the class of 2017, I hope to see you next year :)

Wow! Thanks for all of those stats, and congratulations! How many AP classes have you taken altogether, and which ones, if you don't mind?

No problem and thanks so much it's definitely an awesome feeling knowing my hard work payed off. I have taken 8 APs. They are AP World History, AP U.S. History, AP Government, AP Calc BC, AP Literature, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and AP Psychology. I believe that is all of them, but trying to remember the ones I took sophomore year was a struggle haha. Hope this helps!
