Today I recieved two nominations. One from my senator and one from my congressmen. What all does this entail? I see everyone posting "3Q", what does that mean? I know a nomination is prestigous but if each person nominates 10 how likely is it to get in?

I guess im jsut confused.

What can i expect in the next couple months?

Congratulations Ross!

Getting a nomination is a big step - this is the legal authority the academy has to offer you an appointment. Basically, you need a nomination.

All 3Q means is that one is competitive for an appointment - they have been told they are scholastically qualified (either through a letter from the academy or an admissions officer) they are physically qualified (by passing the CFA) and they are medically qualified.

Yes - each Member of Congress is allowed 10 nominees for each opening. How competitive that slate of 10 is the unknown. Top qualified pick gets in for sure - either by the academy picking or the MOC choice - but then the other 9 candidates compete against all the other applicants as a whole as a qualified alternate.
In order to compete as a qualified alternate, you need a nomination.
So you have crossed a hurdle - Congratulations!

ross747, I am adding congratulations to Just_A_Mom's !!!

You will have to wait....and while you do, continue to update your file with any awards and recognitions you receive. And may I suggest keeping up with your studies  - and your fitness :muscles2: ?

Do i need to worry if i have not recieved a letter stating I am scholastically qualified? Does every candidate entering recieve one?

You don't need to worry - I think it depends on the academy. While USMA will send out a "Letter of Encouragement" to candidates who are eligible to compete for an appointment, some candidates don't get that letter before they get their appointment.
To which academy are you applying? They have different protocol and policies. Go ahead to the forum for the academy to which you have applied and ask specific questions there.

If you have received a nomination and would like feedback on your application it surely would be appropriate for you to contact your admissions representative. Just let them know how excited you are that you have a nomination and ask what the status of your application is. You will get excellent feedback and they will know you are still interested!
Good luck!

AHH. Well i just found out that I recieved another nomination to the Air Force Academy. That brings my total to three. Both senators and representative!!!

Congrats! The representitive nomination's are usually very selective and getting three probly means you've got a really good chance. Have you done your CFA and DODMERB yet?

Also, I think the USAFA doesn't really send out to many letters(LOA's and LOE's...please correct me if I am wrong) but I would speak with your liason officer and get your kit completed ASAP. And whatever happens stay motivated if you go to an academy and enter the military you ALWAYS have to stay motivated! I'm sure your going to shine kid!
