Recognition 2018

How competitive is the chorale? Do you have to have the ability to read music? I LOVE singing and sing for my church but I don't have much formal training and can't read music. Is it still possible to get in?

There is an audition that you'll have to go through. Being able to read music is a plus but depending on your talent, its not insurmountable.

I will admit that getting in is pretty competitive. I think there are only about 25 members right now. Gen. Johnson has given them LOS status, so starting next academic year, they'll be treated like an IC sport & get out to "practice", so I suspect that competition will be even more fierce. But, you won't know unless you try out!

Keep in mind that there are also Catholic and Protestant choirs you can join with no audition (and I recommend it!) If you really enjoy singing, those times will be the most serene and relaxing times for you.

Clubs and sports are really beneficial, in my opinion.
I was on the airsoft club as a 4 dig/3dig, then joined the Combat Shooting team when it restarted. The airsoft club was a great get-away from 4dig life, which I needed a couple times. The Combat Shooting team is a great group, and probably the best experience builder for teamwork, program organization, and small-team leadership I got at the academy.

Thanks for the info! I think I would love to join the protestant choir!!!

Do you know when they will come out with a catalog for this coming year? And thanks for the link, it's very helpful!
I don't believe the catalog will change all that much, if at all. The soonest you can declare your major is at the end of your freshman year, and that's mostly to determine if you'll go into a hard science or not. If you do, you have to take Calc III.

That's not necessarily true- you can declare your major first semester of your four degree year. Is it recommended? Not really, unless you have validated a lot of core classes. I declared English my four degree year, and ended up switching to Behavioral Science at the last minute of my three degree year because it better suited my needs and interests. Don't ever leave an option out, even if you think that you came to pursue a certain degree. You may find that you like something else much better later on.

Thanks haleym. I should have caveated that. :)
I should have said that my DD was discouraged from declaring her major until recently (half way through 2nd semester). She's in Calc III now so she had to know that she wanted a hard science.
