Recognition for the Class of 2022

Congrats to the class of 2022! A day you'll never forget....

Yeah. No. Recognition is a almost a non even in ones KP career. It means almost nothing, and I can tell you more about the regatta I sailed in after recognition that I can tell you about what I did during recognition.

Good for the class of 2022! But this isn’t the HUGE deal parents make it out to be. Passing Captain Hard, accomplishment, passing projects, accomplishment, passing license, accomplishment, recognition, meh.

that's somewhat sad but each place is it's own animal. VMI's Rat Breakout - Citadel's Gauntlet and Recognition are huge to the cadets

Recognition this year was a joke. They already had all of the privileges. But, about this list they can't pass Capt. Hard anymore. '18 was the last year that had him. Now we just take CG exams for nav lawr. Passing projects wasn't an accomplishment because you basically know you passed if you finished. I take license in like 40 days, so idk about that one. But recognition is a day on the calendar, means absolutely nothing to anybody.

Recognition is exciting until you realize you are still the low man with all the crap that includes until the next class arrives. The upperclassmen don’t magically start cleaning the heads, taking the trash out, or serving the table because you were recognized.

But hey, at least they get to wear their backpack! HA HA!

No more PKT on Sunday nights, no more running everywhere, no squaring corners, they can now talk outside, they can use some paths they couldn't before, they can close their doors at 1 pm instead of 9 pm, they get to sleep 25 minutes longer every day, etc etc. It's the little things.

They don't get to sleep 25 minutes longer. They have to wake up earlier than everybody else to clean.

The difference is that nobody is inclined to put plebes into the discipline system. Now that they are recognized we do that, my CO is currently sticking 4th class mids who think they are 1st class mids. They will come down from the joys of being recognized very quickly.
